The GranCabrio Foglore has standard Automated Emergency Braking, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The Camaro offers an available collision warning system without the automated brake feature that would prevent or reduce the collision if the driver fails to react.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The GranCabrio Foglore has standard Rear Emergency Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Camaro doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The GranCabrio Foglore has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Camaro doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The GranCabrio Foglore’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The Camaro doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The GranCabrio Foglore offers an optional Surround View Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Camaro only offers a rear monitor and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the front or sides.

The GranCabrio Foglore’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Camaro doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the GranCabrio Foglore and the Camaro have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems and rear cross-path warning.

The Maserati GranCabrio Foglore weighs 1007 to 1747 pounds more than the Chevrolet Camaro. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The GranCabrio Foglore comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Camaro’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

Engine

The GranCabrio Foglore’s electric motors produces 416 more horsepower (751 vs. 335) and 712 lbs.-ft. more torque (996 vs. 284) than the Camaro’s standard 3.6 DOHC V6. The GranCabrio Foglore’s electric motors produces 296 more horsepower (751 vs. 455) and 541 lbs.-ft. more torque (996 vs. 455) than the Camaro LT1/SS’ standard 6.2 V8. The GranCabrio Foglore’s electric motors produces 101 more horsepower (751 vs. 650) and 346 lbs.-ft. more torque (996 vs. 650) than the Camaro ZL1’s standard 6.2 supercharged V8.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the GranCabrio Foglore running its gasoline engine gets better mileage than the Camaro:

The GranCabrio Foglore can travel with zero emissions on a full charge for 233 miles. The Camaro can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the GranCabrio Foglore’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Camaro doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The GranCabrio Foglore, as a pure battery electric vehicle, has no need to “idle” its motors in traffic: they only burn power when moving. The GranCabrio Foglore’s climate control systems still work completely when the vehicle is stopped. The Camaro still runs its internal combustion engine whenever it’s stopped, burning excess fuel.

The GranCabrio Foglore has a standard locking charge port with a power remote release convenient to the driver. The fuel filler door is not lockable on the Camaro. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage; a locking fuel door helps prevent fuel theft and vandalism, such as sugar in the tank.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Maserati GranCabrio Foglore higher (10 out of 10) than the Chevrolet Camaro (1 to 6). This means the GranCabrio Foglore produces up to 58.8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Camaro every 15,000 miles.

Transmission and Drivetrain

The Maserati GranCabrio Foglore comes standard with an automatic transmission, for driver comfort, especially in the city. Automatic costs extra on the Camaro.

All wheel drive, available in the GranCabrio Foglore, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Chevrolet Camaro is not available with all wheel drive.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the GranCabrio Foglore’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the Camaro:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the GranCabrio Foglore has larger tires than the Camaro (F:265/30R20 & R:295/30R21 vs. 245/50R18).

The GranCabrio Foglore’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Camaro’s standard 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GranCabrio Foglore has standard 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Camaro. The Camaro’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the GranCabrio Foglore uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Camaro, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The GranCabrio Foglore has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The GranCabrio Foglore’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Camaro doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GranCabrio Foglore’s wheelbase is 4.6 inches longer than on the Camaro (115.3 inches vs. 110.7 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the GranCabrio Foglore is 1.6 inches wider in the front and 2.6 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the Camaro.

The GranCabrio Foglore’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the Camaro’s (51.9% to 48.1%). This gives the GranCabrio Foglore more stable handling and braking.

Chassis

For excellent aerodynamics, the GranCabrio Foglore has standard flush composite headlights. The Camaro has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

Passenger Space

The GranCabrio Foglore has 4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Camaro Convertible (89 vs. 85).

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors optional at extra cost in the Camaro (except LT1), the GranCabrio Foglore has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The GranCabrio Foglore’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Camaro’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

The GranCabrio Foglore’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Camaro’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

The GranCabrio Foglore’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the Camaro’s standard projector halogen headlights and light instantly. LED lights also last over twenty times longer than halogen. The GranCabrio Foglore’s LED headlights produce a white, bright light using less electricity than the Camaro’s optional xenon high intensity discharge (HID) headlights. HID headlights can be slow to reach full brightness or power cycle, causing issues when flashing them to signal other vehicles; LED headlights light instantly. LED lights also last about three to four times as long.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the GranCabrio Foglore detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The Camaro doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the GranCabrio Foglore has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Camaro doesn’t offer cornering lights. The GranCabrio Foglore also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The GranCabrio Foglore’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Heated mirrors cost extra on the Camaro and aren’t offered on the Camaro LT1.

The GranCabrio Foglore has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Camaro.

The GranCabrio Foglore has a standard center folding armrest for the rear passengers. A center armrest helps make rear passengers more comfortable and it can provide a boundary between children. The Camaro doesn’t offer a rear seat center armrest.

The GranCabrio Foglore has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning costs extra on the Camaro and isn’t available on the Camaro LT1.

For greater rear passenger comfort, the GranCabrio Foglore has standard rear a/c vents to keep rear occupants more comfortable. The Camaro doesn’t offer rear vents.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the GranCabrio Foglore offers an optional Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Camaro doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Maserati GranCabrio Foglore has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the glovebox. Wireless charging costs extra on the Camaro and isn’t available on the Camaro LT1.
