The front and rear suspension of the GranCabrio uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the CLE, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.
The GranCabrio has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The GranCabrio’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The CLE doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.
For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GranCabrio’s wheelbase is 2.5 inches longer than on the CLE (115.3 inches vs. 112.8 inches).
For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the GranCabrio is 1.6 inches wider in the front and 1.8 inches wider in the rear than on the CLE.
The GranCabrio’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the CLE’s (55% to 45%). This gives the GranCabrio more stable handling and braking.
