The GranCabrio has standard Automated Emergency Braking, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The F8 doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The GranCabrio has standard Rear Emergency Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The F8 doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The GranCabrio has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The F8 doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The GranCabrio’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The F8 doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The GranCabrio offers an optional Surround View Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The F8 only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

The GranCabrio’s optional blind spot warning system uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. The F8 doesn’t offer a system to reveal objects in the driver’s blind spots.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the GranCabrio’s optional Rear Cross Path uses sensors in the rear to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The F8 doesn’t offer a rear cross-path warning system.

The GranCabrio’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The F8 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The GranCabrio has standard SOS and Assist Call, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The F8 doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the GranCabrio and the F8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rear parking sensors.

The Maserati GranCabrio weighs 1109 to 1153 pounds more than the Ferrari F8. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The GranCabrio comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The F8’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

The GranCabrio’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the F8’s (4 vs. 3 years).

There are almost 3 times as many Maserati dealers as there are Ferrari dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the GranCabrio’s warranty.

On the EPA test cycle the GranCabrio gets better fuel mileage than the F8 Spider (17 city/26 hwy vs. 15 city/18 hwy).

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the GranCabrio’s fuel efficiency. The F8 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Maserati GranCabrio, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the F8.

All wheel drive, available in the GranCabrio, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Ferrari F8 is not available with all wheel drive.

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The GranCabrio has a standard Brake Assist System to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The F8 doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.

For better traction, the GranCabrio has larger front tires than the F8 (265/30R20 vs. 245/35R20).

The GranCabrio’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the F8’s standard 35 series front tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GranCabrio has standard 21-inch rear wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the F8.

The front and rear suspension of the GranCabrio uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the F8, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The GranCabrio has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The GranCabrio’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The F8 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GranCabrio’s wheelbase is 11 inches longer than on the F8 (115.3 inches vs. 104.3 inches).

The GranCabrio’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the F8’s (41.5% to 58.5%). This gives the GranCabrio more stable handling and braking.

The GranCabrio’s entire steering wheel hub sounds the horn, facilitating hitting the horn in an emergency. The F8 has two small spoke buttons. These buttons can be hard to find and reach in an emergency.

The GranCabrio has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The F8 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the F8, the GranCabrio has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The GranCabrio offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The F8 doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The GranCabrio’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The F8’s passenger windows don’t close automatically.

The GranCabrio’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The F8’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

The GranCabrio’s standard Extended Keyless Go allow you to unlock the doors from either outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless Entry and Ignition standard on the F8 doesn’t offer a sensor on the trunk.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the GranCabrio to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The F8 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the GranCabrio detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The F8 doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the GranCabrio has standard extendable sun visors. The F8 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The GranCabrio has standard heated front seats, which keep the driver and front passenger extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated seats aren’t available in the F8.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the GranCabrio keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The F8 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

On extremely cold winter days, the GranCabrio’s standard heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The F8 doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the GranCabrio offers an optional Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The F8 doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

The GranCabrio’s standard GPS navigation system has a real-time traffic update feature that plots alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The F8’s navigation system doesn’t offer real-time traffic updates.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Maserati GranCabrio has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the glovebox. The F8 doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
