Safety

Both the E-Pace and RX have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The E-Pace has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The RX’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the E-Pace deploy with different levels of force to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The E-Pace’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The RX’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the E-Pace. But it costs extra on the RX.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the E-Pace has standard Rear Traffic Warning with Rear Traffic Braking, systems which detect vehicles approaching from the sides and can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. Parking Support Brake costs extra on the RX.

Both the E-Pace and the RX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

Warranty

The E-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The RX’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the E-Pace for 4 years and 50,000 miles longer than Lexus pays for maintenance for the RX (5/60,000 vs. 1/10,000).

Engine

The E-Pace’s 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder produces 36 lbs.-ft. more torque (269 vs. 233) than the RX 350h’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid.

Fuel Economy and Range

Both the E-Pace and the RX have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. All E-Paces have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily. The RX 350h/500h doesn’t offer a way to disable start/stop.

The E-Pace has 3.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the RX 450+’s standard fuel tank (17.7 vs. 14.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Jaguar E-Pace, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the RX.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the E-Pace’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the RX (245/45R20 vs. 235/60R19).

The E-Pace’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the RX’s standard 60 series tires. The E-Pace’s optional tires have a lower 45 series profile than the RX’s optional 50 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

The E-Pace SE handles at .83 G’s, while the RX 500h F Sport Performance pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

Chassis

The Jaguar E-Pace may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 900 pounds less than the Lexus RX.

The E-Pace is 1 foot, 7.5 inches shorter than the RX, making the E-Pace easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Jaguar E-Pace amounts to more than styling. The E-Pace has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .33 Cd. That is lower than the RX (.35) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the E-Pace get better fuel mileage.

Cargo Capacity

The E-Pace has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the RX with its rear seat folded (49.5 vs. 46.2 cubic feet).

Towing

The E-Pace’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the RX’s (3968 vs. 0 pounds).

Ergonomics

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the E-Pace to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The RX doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.
