Compare the2024 Mercedes EQBVS 2024 Jaguar I-Pace

The EQB’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The I-Pace doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Mercedes EQB are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar I-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Mercedes EQB has a standard driver’s side knee airbag mounted low on the dashboard. The knee airbag helps prevent the driver from sliding under the seatbelts or the main frontal airbag; this keeps the driver better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. A knee airbag also helps keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the EQB’s standard Downhill Speed Regulation allows you to creep down safely. The I-Pace doesn’t offer Downhill Speed Regulation.

The EQB offers an optional Surround View System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The I-Pace only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the EQB and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available lane departure warning systems.

There are almost 3 times as many Mercedes dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the EQB’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Mercedes vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar With 38 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Mercedes higher than Jaguar.

On the EPA test cycle the EQB gets better mileage than the I-Pace:

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires available on the EQB can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The I-Pace doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The EQB’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The I-Pace doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For better maneuverability, the EQB’s turning circle is 2.1 feet tighter than the I-Pace’s (38.4 feet vs. 40.5 feet).

The EQB is 7 inches narrower than the I-Pace, making the EQB easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The EQB has .8 inches more front headroom, .2 inches more front legroom, 1.2 inches more rear headroom, 3.1 inches more rear legroom and .3 inches more rear shoulder room than the I-Pace.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the EQB’s middle row seats recline. The I-Pace’s rear seats don’t recline.

The EQB’s cargo area provides more volume than the I-Pace.

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the I-Pace, the EQB has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, suspension setting, power steering assist, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the EQB has a standard rear wiper. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the EQB offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The I-Pace doesn’t offer cornering lights. The EQB also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The EQB offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the I-Pace.

The EQB offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The EQB’s Active Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, stopping and changing direction automatically. The I-Pace’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.

The EQB is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

The Mercedes EQB outsold the Jaguar I-Pace by over 23 to one during 2023.
