Compare the2025 BMW M4VS 2024 Mercedes AMG GT

The M4’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The M4 has standard Front Collision Mitigation, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.

The M4 has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The M4 offers an optional Active Park Distance Control that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The M4’s lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The M4 offers an optional Surround View to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer any parking assist system.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the M4’s standard Cross Traffic Warning uses sensors in the rear to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a rear cross-path warning system.

The M4’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The M4 has standard BMW Assist, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the M4 and the Mercedes AMG GT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and daytime running lights.

The M4’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the Mercedes AMG GT’s (12 vs. 5 years).

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the M4 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. BMW will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the AMG GT.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that BMW vehicles are better in initial quality than Mercedes vehicles. With 9 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks BMW higher than Mercedes.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks BMW above average in long-term dependability. With 5 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Mercedes is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that BMW vehicles are more reliable than Mercedes vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks BMW 20 places higher in reliability than Mercedes.

On the EPA test cycle the M4 Coupe gets better mileage than the Mercedes AMG GT:

Regenerative brakes improve the M4’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the M4’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

For better stopping power the M4 CCB’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Mercedes AMG GT:

The M4 offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the M4’s wheelbase is 6.2 inches longer than on the Mercedes AMG GT (112.5 inches vs. 106.3 inches).

For better maneuverability, the M4’s turning circle is 1 foot tighter than the Mercedes AMG GT’s (40 feet vs. 41 feet).

The M4’s standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

The M4 Coupe has a much larger trunk than the Mercedes AMG GT with its rear seat up (15.5 vs. 11.3 cubic feet).

With its coupe body style, valet key, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the M4 offers cargo security. The Mercedes AMG GT’s hatchback body style defeats cargo security.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that BMW service is better than Mercedes. J.D. Power ranks BMW 7th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 17% lower rating, Mercedes is ranked 18th.

The M4 (except Manual) offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The M4’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Mercedes AMG GT’s

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the M4 Competition offers an optional Active Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

The M4’s optional Parking Assistant Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The BMW M4 comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Mercedes AMG GT isn’t available as a convertible.

The M4 is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
