The 4 Series Coupe’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The BMW 4 Series Coupe has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The 4 Series Coupe has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The 4 Series Coupe’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the GranTurismo.

The 4 Series Coupe has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the GranTurismo’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the 4 Series Coupe has standard Cross Traffic Warning, helping the driver avoid collisions. Maserati charges extra for Rear Cross Path on the GranTurismo.

Both the 4 Series Coupe and the GranTurismo have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The 4 Series Coupe’s corrosion warranty is 8 years and unlimited miles longer than the GranTurismo’s (12/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).

BMW pays for scheduled maintenance on the 4 Series Coupe for 3 years and 36,000 miles. BMW will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Maserati doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the GranTurismo.

There are over 3 times as many BMW dealers as there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the 4 Series Coupe’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the 4 Series Coupe third among compact premium cars in their 2023 Initial Quality Study. The GranTurismo isn’t in the top three in its category.

On the EPA test cycle the 4 Series Coupe gets better mileage than the GranTurismo:

Regenerative brakes improve the 4 Series Coupe’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

To lower fuel costs and make buying fuel easier, the BMW 4 Series Coupe uses regular unleaded gasoline (premium recommended for maximum performance). The GranTurismo requires premium, which can cost on average about 82.8 cents more per gallon.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the 4 Series Coupe can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

For better maneuverability, the 4 Series Coupe’s turning circle is 3.3 feet tighter than the GranTurismo’s (37.4 feet vs. 40.7 feet). The 4 Series Coupe xDrive’s turning circle is 1.3 feet tighter than the GranTurismo’s (39.4 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The BMW 4 Series Coupe may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 200 to 400 pounds less than the Maserati GranTurismo.

The 4 Series Coupe is 7.3 inches shorter than the GranTurismo Modena, making the 4 Series Coupe easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the 4 Series Coupe a Compact car, while the GranTurismo is rated a Subcompact.

The 4 Series Coupe has a much larger trunk than the GranTurismo (15.5 vs. 10.9 cubic feet).

With its coupe body style, valet key, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the 4 Series offers cargo security. The GranTurismo’s non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

Both the 4 Series Coupe and the GranTurismo offer rear vents. For greater rear passenger comfort, the 4 Series Coupe has standard rear air conditioning vents to keep rear occupants cool in summer or warm in winter. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer rear air conditioning vents, only heat vents.

The 4 Series Coupe’s optional Parking Assistant Plus can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The BMW 4 Series comes in coupe, convertible and four door hatchback bodystyles; the Maserati GranTurismo isn’t available as a convertible or four door.

The 4 Series Coupe is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
