Safety

The SQ7’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Urus doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The SQ7 has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Urus doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The SQ7’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Urus.

The SQ7 has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the Urus’ blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the SQ7 has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Assist, helping the driver avoid collisions. Lamborghini charges extra for Rear Cross-Traffic Assist on the Urus.

Both the SQ7 and the Urus have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, rearview cameras and available night vision systems.

The Audi SQ7 weighs 447 to 551 pounds more than the Lamborghini Urus. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Audi SQ7 achieved a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the 2024 model year. This recognition was based on its impressive performance in the small overlap frontal crash test, updated side impact crash test, headlight evaluations, and pedestrian crash prevention testing. The Urus has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

Warranty

The SQ7 comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Urus’ 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

There are almost 8 times as many Audi dealers as there are Lamborghini dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the SQ7’s warranty.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the SQ7 gets better fuel mileage than the Urus (15 city/21 hwy vs. 14 city/19 hwy).

Regenerative brakes improve the SQ7’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Urus doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the SQ7’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The Urus doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

Tires and Wheels

The SQ7’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Urus’ standard 45 series front tires.

Passenger Space

The SQ7 has standard seating for 7 passengers; the Urus can only carry up to 5.

The SQ7 has .1 inches more front legroom, .6 inches more front shoulder room, .8 inches more rear headroom and 2 inches more rear shoulder room than the Urus.

Cargo Capacity

The SQ7’s cargo area provides more volume than the Urus.

Ergonomics

The SQ7 has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Urus doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The SQ7’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Urus’

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the SQ7 to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Urus doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the SQ7 has a standard rear wiper. The Urus doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

A manual rear sunshade and rear side window sunshades are optional in the SQ7 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Urus doesn’t offer a rear sunshade.

The SQ7 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Urus.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Audi SQ7 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Urus doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

Recommendations

The Audi Q7/SQ7 outsold the Lamborghini Urus by over 14 to one during 2023.
