For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Porsche Panamera are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

Both the Panamera and Giulia Quadrifoglio have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Panamera has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Giulia Quadrifoglio’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Panamera offers all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Panamera helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard and even aims one of the vehicle’s headlights in the direction of the person or object. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a night vision system.

The Panamera offers an optional Surround View System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Giulia Quadrifoglio only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Panamera and Giulia Quadrifoglio have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Panamera has Rear Cross Traffic Alert (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Giulia Quadrifoglio’s Rear Cross-Path Detection doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Panamera and the Giulia Quadrifoglio have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The Porsche Panamera weighs 475 to 1482 pounds more than the Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The Panamera’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the Giulia Quadrifoglio’s (12 vs. 5 years).

There are over 59 percent more Porsche dealers than there are Alfa Romeo dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Panamera’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are more reliable than Alfa Romeo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche above average in long-term dependability. With 30 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Alfa Romeo is rated below average.

Engine

The Panamera 4 E-Hybrid’s standard 2.9 turbo V6 hybrid produces 36 lbs.-ft. more torque (479 vs. 443) than the Giulia Quadrifoglio’s 2.9 turbo V6. The Panamera 4S E-Hybrid’s standard 2.9 turbo V6 hybrid produces 31 more horsepower (536 vs. 505) and 110 lbs.-ft. more torque (553 vs. 443) than the Giulia Quadrifoglio’s 2.9 turbo V6. The Panamera Turbo E-Hybrid’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 165 more horsepower (670 vs. 505) and 243 lbs.-ft. more torque (686 vs. 443) than the Giulia Quadrifoglio’s 2.9 turbo V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Panamera 4 2.9 turbo V6 running its gasoline engine gets better fuel mileage than the Giulia Quadrifoglio (18 city/25 hwy vs. 17 city/25 hwy).

Regenerative brakes improve the Panamera’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Panamera’s standard fuel tank has 5.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the Giulia Quadrifoglio (21.1 vs. 15.3 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Panamera’s standard fuel tank has 8.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the Giulia Quadrifoglio (23.9 vs. 15.3 gallons).

Transmission

The Panamera offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.

The Panamera’s optional launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer launch control.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Panamera 4S/Turbo CCB’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Giulia Quadrifoglio:

The Panamera offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Panamera has larger standard tires than the Giulia Quadrifoglio (F:265/45R19 & R:295/40R19 vs. F:245/35R19 & R:285/30R19). The Panamera’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Giulia Quadrifoglio (F:275/35R21 & R:325/30R21 vs. F:245/35R19 & R:285/30R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Panamera offers optional 21-inch wheels. The Giulia Quadrifoglio’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the Panamera uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Giulia Quadrifoglio, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Panamera offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Alfa Romeo doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Giulia Quadrifoglio.

The Panamera has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Panamera’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Panamera’s wheelbase is 5.1 inches longer than on the Giulia Quadrifoglio (116.1 inches vs. 111 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Panamera is 4.6 inches wider in the front and 1.7 inches wider in the rear than on the Giulia Quadrifoglio.

Passenger Space

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Panamera’s available rear seats recline. The Giulia Quadrifoglio’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Panamera’s power liftgate can be opened just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

Towing

Standard Trailer Stability Management on the Panamera uses the Porsche Stability Management sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Porsche service is better than Alfa Romeo. J.D. Power ranks Porsche third in service department satisfaction. With a 78% lower rating, Alfa Romeo is ranked 32nd.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the Giulia Quadrifoglio, the Panamera has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Panamera’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Giulia Quadrifoglio does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Panamera offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Panamera’s standard Porsche Entry and Drive allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the trunk, and start the car, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless-Enter-n-Go standard on the Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

A power rear sunshade and rear side window sunshades are optional in the Panamera to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer a rear or rear side window sunshades.

When the Panamera is put in reverse, the passenger rearview mirror tilts from its original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirror into its original position. The Giulia Quadrifoglio’s mirror doesn’t automatically adjust for backing.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the Panamera’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Panamera has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel isn’t available on the Giulia Quadrifoglio w/Sparco Racing Seats.

The Panamera offers optional massaging front and rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Giulia Quadrifoglio.

The Panamera’s optional Remote ParkAssist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote ParkAssist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Giulia Quadrifoglio doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

Recommendations

The Porsche Panamera outsold the Alfa Romeo Giulia by 21% during 2023.
