In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Sierra 1500 are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The F-150 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

To reliably start during all conditions and help handle large electrical loads, the Sierra 1500 has a standard 730-amp battery (850 optional). The F-150’s 610-amp battery isn’t as powerful.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Sierra 1500 third among large light duty pickups in their 2023 Initial Quality Study. The F-150 isn’t in the top three.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that GMC vehicles are better in initial quality than Ford vehicles. J.D. An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Sierra 1500 V8’s fuel efficiency. The F-150 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Both the Sierra 1500 and the F-150 have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. All Sierra 1500s have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily. The F-150 PowerBoost doesn’t offer a way to disable start/stop.

For better traction, the Sierra 1500 has larger standard tires than the F-150 (255/70R17 vs. 245/70R17).

The Sierra 1500 has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The Sierra 1500’s standard front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The F-150’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully.

The Sierra 1500 has standard Push Button Start that allows you to start the engine without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Intelligent Access costs extra on the F-150 and isn’t available on the F-150 XL/STX.

The Sierra 1500’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the F-150’s standard halogen headlights. LED lights also light instantly and last over twenty times longer than halogen.

When the Sierra 1500 SLT/AT4/Denali is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The F-150’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

Bluetooth wireless connectivity is standard on the Sierra 1500, connecting the driver and passenger’s cell phones to the vehicle systems. This allows them to use the vehicle’s stereo and hand controls to place calls safely and easily. Bluetooth costs extra on the F-150.
