The Range Rover Sport’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The RX doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the Range Rover Sport and RX have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover Sport has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The RX’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Range Rover Sport. But it costs extra on the RX.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Range Rover Sport has standard Rear Traffic Monitor with Rear Traffic Braking, systems which detect vehicles approaching from the sides and can automatically apply the brakes to prevent a collision. Parking Support Brake costs extra on the RX.

Both the Range Rover Sport and the RX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Range Rover Sport P550e can travel with zero emissions on electricity, only, on a full charge for 51 miles, up to 10% further than the RX 450h+‘s -mile range on a full charge and a full tank of fuel. The RX 450h+ has to start its internal combustion engine after only 37 miles.

Both the Range Rover Sport and the RX have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. All Range Rover Sports have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily. The RX 350h/500h doesn’t offer a way to disable start/stop.

The Range Rover Sport P550e’s standard fuel tank has 4.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the RX 450+’s standard fuel tank (18.9 vs. 14.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The Range Rover Sport P550e’s standard fuel tank has 1.7 gallons more fuel capacity than the RX 350h/500h’s standard fuel tank (18.9 vs. 17.2 gallons). The Range Rover Sport’s standard fuel tank has 6 gallons more fuel capacity than the RX 350’s standard fuel tank (23.8 vs. 17.8 gallons).

For better traction, the Range Rover Sport has larger standard tires than the RX (275/50R21 vs. 235/60R19). The Range Rover Sport SV’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the RX (F:285/40R23 & R:305/35R23 vs. 235/60R19).

The Range Rover Sport’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the RX’s standard 60 series tires. The Range Rover Sport SV’s 285/40R23 front and 305/35R23 rear tires have a lower 40 series front and 35 series rear profile than the RX’s optional 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Sport has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the RX. The Range Rover Sport’s optional 23-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the RX.

The Range Rover Sport offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the RX; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography/First Edition has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The RX doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the Range Rover Sport uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the RX, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography/First Edition offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Lexus doesn’t offer an active suspension on the RX.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Range Rover Sport’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The RX doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Range Rover Sport’s wheelbase is 5.8 inches longer than on the RX (118 inches vs. 112.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Range Rover Sport is 1.8 inches wider in the front and .6 inches wider in the rear than on the RX.

The Range Rover Sport’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (51% to 49%) than the RX’s (54.7% to 45.3%). This gives the Range Rover Sport more stable handling and braking.

The Range Rover Sport SE handles at .81 G’s, while the RX 500h F Sport Performance pulls only .80 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.4 seconds quicker than the RX 350h (27.2 seconds @ .66 average G’s vs. 28.6 seconds @ .57 average G’s).

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover Sport SV has a 1.7 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the RX 350 (9.8 vs. 8.1 inches), allowing the Range Rover Sport to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Range Rover Sport’s minimum ground clearance is 2.8 inches higher than on the RX 350h (11 vs. 8.2 inches).

The design of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport amounts to more than styling. The Range Rover Sport has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .29 Cd. That is significantly lower than the RX (.35) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Range Rover Sport get better fuel mileage.

The Range Rover Sport uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The RX doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the RX Premium/Luxury/500h F Sport, the Range Rover Sport has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover Sport to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The RX doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

Consumer Reports rated the Range Rover Sport’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the RX’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

To better shield the driver and front passenger’s vision, the Range Rover Sport offers optional dual-element sun visors that can block glare from two directions simultaneously. The RX doesn’t offer secondary sun visors.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Range Rover Sport to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The RX doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the RX.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography/SV has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the RX.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the RX.
