For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Genesis GV70 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

Both the Range Rover Sport and the GV70 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport weighs 407 to 1858 pounds more than the Genesis GV70. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

For better traction, the Range Rover Sport has larger standard tires than the GV70 (275/50R21 vs. 235/55R19). The Range Rover Sport SV’s tires are larger than the largest tires available on the GV70 (F:285/40R23 & R:305/35R23 vs. 255/40R21).

The Range Rover Sport’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the GV70’s standard 55 series tires. The Range Rover Sport SV’s 305/35R23 rear tires have a lower 35 series profile than the GV70 Sport’s optional 40 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Range Rover Sport has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the GV70. The Range Rover Sport’s optional 23-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the GV70 Sport.

The Range Rover Sport offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the GV70; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which limits mileage and speed before replacement.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography/First Edition has active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The GV70 doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The front and rear suspension of the Range Rover Sport uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the GV70, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography/First Edition offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Genesis doesn’t offer an active suspension on the GV70.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Range Rover Sport’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The GV70 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The Range Rover Sport has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The GV70 doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Range Rover Sport’s wheelbase is 4.8 inches longer than on the GV70 (118 inches vs. 113.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Range Rover Sport is 2.2 inches wider in the front and 1.6 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the GV70.

For better maneuverability, the Range Rover Sport w/Rear Wheel Steering’s turning circle is 1.8 feet tighter than the GV70’s (35.9 feet vs. 37.7 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover Sport SV has a 2.5 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the GV70 (9.8 vs. 7.3 inches), allowing the Range Rover Sport to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Range Rover Sport’s minimum ground clearance is 3.7 inches higher than on the GV70 (11 vs. 7.3 inches).

The design of the Land Rover Range Rover Sport amounts to more than styling. The Range Rover Sport has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .29 Cd. That is lower than the GV70 (.32) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Range Rover Sport get better fuel mileage.

The Range Rover Sport uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The GV70 doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver while cruising at 70 MPH, the interior of the Range Rover Sport SE is quieter than the GV70 Sport Prestige (66 vs. 67 dB).

The Range Rover Sport has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The GV70 doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the GV70 Select/Advanced/Sport/3.5T, the Range Rover Sport has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Range Rover Sport’s standard Passive Keyless Entry allows you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the vehicle, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Proximity Key standard on the GV70 doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover Sport to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The GV70 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The Range Rover Sport has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The GV70 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Range Rover Sport offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The GV70 doesn’t offer cornering lights.

To better shield the driver and front passenger’s vision, the Range Rover Sport offers optional dual-element sun visors that can block glare from two directions simultaneously. The GV70 doesn’t offer secondary sun visors.

The Range Rover Sport has standard front air conditioned seats and offers them optionally in the rear. This keeps the passengers comfortable and takes the sting out of hot seats in summer. The GV70 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the GV70 Advanced/Sport/Select.
