The Range Rover Sport’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The DBX doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the Range Rover Sport and DBX have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Range Rover Sport has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The DBX’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The Range Rover Sport’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The DBX doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The Range Rover Sport has standard InControl, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to remotely unlock your doors if you lock your keys in, help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The DBX doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the Range Rover Sport and the DBX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

Warranty

The Range Rover Sport comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The DBX’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

There are almost 6 times as many Land Rover dealers as there are Aston Martin dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Range Rover Sport’s warranty.

The Range Rover Sport P550e can travel with zero emissions for 51 miles. The DBX can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Range Rover Sport’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The DBX doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

The Range Rover Sport’s standard fuel tank has 1.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the DBX (23.8 vs. 22.5 gallons).

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Land Rover Range Rover Sport higher (6 to 7 out of 10) than the Aston Martin DBX (5). This means the Range Rover Sport produces up to 8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the DBX every 15,000 miles.

For better stopping power the Range Rover Sport SV’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the DBX:

Tires and Wheels

The Range Rover Sport offers an optional full size spare tire so a flat doesn’t interrupt your trip. A full size spare isn’t available on the DBX; it requires you to depend on a temporary spare, which has mileage and speed limitations, or roadside assistance and a tow-truck.

Suspension and Handling

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Range Rover Sport is .1 inches wider in the front and 1.6 inches wider in the rear than on the DBX.

For better maneuverability, the Range Rover Sport w/Rear Wheel Steering’s turning circle is 4.8 feet tighter than the DBX’s (35.9 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Range Rover Sport SV has a greater minimum ground clearance than the DBX (9.8 vs. 9.3 inches), allowing the Range Rover Sport to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Range Rover Sport’s minimum ground clearance is 1.7 inches higher than on the DBX (11 vs. 9.3 inches).

Chassis

The Range Rover Sport is 3.7 inches shorter than the DBX, making the Range Rover Sport easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Range Rover Sport uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The DBX doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the Range Rover Sport SE is quieter than the DBX:

Passenger Space

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Range Rover Sport’s rear seats recline. The DBX’s rear seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The Range Rover Sport has a much larger cargo volume than the DBX with its rear seat up (31.9 vs. 22.5 cubic feet).

Towing

The Range Rover Sport’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the DBX’s (7716 vs. 5940 pounds).

Ergonomics

The Range Rover Sport has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The DBX doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The Range Rover Sport offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The DBX doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the Range Rover Sport to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The DBX doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Range Rover Sport has a standard rear wiper. The DBX doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Range Rover Sport offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The DBX doesn’t offer cornering lights.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Range Rover Sport to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The DBX doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

The Range Rover Sport has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the DBX.

The Range Rover Sport Autobiography/SV has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the DBX.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Land Rover Range Rover Sport has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the DBX.

The Range Rover Sport’s optional Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The DBX’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.

Recommendations

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Range Rover Sport first among large premium suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The DBX isn’t in the top three.

The Land Rover Range Rover Sport outsold the Aston Martin DBX by almost 14 to one during 2023.
