Both the Hummer EV Pickup and F-150 Lightning have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Hummer EV Pickup has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The F-150 Lightning’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Both the Hummer EV Pickup and the F-150 Lightning have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup weighs 2083 to 2961 pounds more than the Ford F-150 Lightning. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the F-150 Lightning’s (6 vs. 5 years).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that GMC vehicles are better in initial quality than Ford vehicles. J.D. Power ranks GMC above average in initial quality. With 34 more problems per 100 vehicles, Ford is rated below average.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard electric motors produces 368 more horsepower (830 vs. 462) and 425 lbs.-ft. more torque (1200 vs. 775) than the F-150 Lightning’s standard electric motors. The Hummer EV Pickup’s electric motors produces 250 more horsepower (830 vs. 580) and 425 lbs.-ft. more torque (1200 vs. 775) than the F-150 Lightning’s optional electric motors. The Hummer EV Pickup’s optional electric motors produces 420 more horsepower (1000 vs. 580) and 10725 lbs.-ft. more torque (11500 vs. 775) than the F-150 Lightning’s optional electric motors.

As tested in Motor Trend the GMC Hummer EV Pickup (1000 HP engine) is faster than the Ford F-150 Lightning (580 HP engine):

For better traction, the Hummer EV Pickup has larger tires than the F-150 Lightning (305/70R18 vs. 275/65R18).

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup’s wheels have 8 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Ford F-150 Lightning only has 6 wheel lugs per wheel.

The Hummer EV Pickup has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The F-150 Lightning doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Hummer EV Pickup offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The F-150 Lightning’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Hummer EV Pickup 2X/3X has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Hummer EV Pickup’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The F-150 Lightning doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Hummer EV Pickup is 5.2 inches wider in the front and 5 inches wider in the rear than on the F-150 Lightning.

For better maneuverability, the Hummer EV Pickup’s turning circle is 10.7 feet tighter than the F-150 Lightning’s (37.1 feet vs. 47.8 feet). The Hummer EV Pickup 2’s turning circle is 3.5 feet tighter than the F-150 Lightning’s (44.3 feet vs. 47.8 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Hummer EV Pickup 2 has a 1.7 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the F-150 Lightning (10.1 vs. 8.4 inches), allowing the Hummer EV Pickup to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Hummer EV Pickup 2X/3X’s minimum ground clearance is 7.5 inches higher than on the F-150 Lightning (15.9 vs. 8.4 inches).

The Hummer EV Pickup is 1 foot, 3.9 inches shorter than the F-150 Lightning, making the Hummer EV Pickup easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Hummer EV Pickup uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The F-150 Lightning doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Hummer EV Pickup has 1.7 inches more front headroom and 1.7 inches more front legroom than the F-150 Lightning.

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup has a standard EZ Lift Tailgate, which prevents the heavy tailgate from falling with a crash and causing injury. It allows adults and children to easily open and close the tailgate with one hand to better facilitate loading and unloading. The Ford F-150 Lightning doesn’t offer a tailgate assist.

The GMC Hummer EV Pickup has a standard tailgate assist feature, which folds out and allows for much easier access to the cargo area. A Tailgate Step costs extra on the Ford F-150 Lightning.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the F-150 Lightning’s (7500 vs. 5000 pounds).

The Hummer EV Pickup’s front and rear power windows all lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The F-150 Lightning’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully.

On a hot day the Hummer EV Pickup’s driver can lower all the windows from a distance using the keyless remote. The driver of the F-150 Lightning can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard Keyless Open and Start allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, unlock the tailgate, and start the truck, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Push Button Start standard on the F-150 Lightning only offers hands-free access for the ignition, none to unlock the truck.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The F-150 Lightning’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

The Hummer EV Pickup’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Ford charges extra for heated mirrors on the F-150 Lightning.

When the Hummer EV Pickup is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The F-150 Lightning’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The Hummer EV Pickup has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the F-150 Lightning.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the GMC Hummer EV Pickup has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the F-150 Lightning Lariat/Platinum offers wireless charging.
