The Dodge Charger has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags help prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The C40 doesn’t offer a front passenger side knee airbag.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Charger. But it costs extra on the C40 Recharge.

Both the Charger and the C40 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Dodge Charger weighs 1068 pounds more than the Volvo C40 Recharge. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Dodge’s powertrain warranty covers the Charger 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Volvo covers the C40 Recharge. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the C40 Recharge ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 9 times as many Dodge dealers as there are Volvo dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Charger’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Dodge vehicles are better in initial quality than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Dodge first in initial quality, above the industry average. With 110 more problems per 100 vehicles, Volvo is ranked 32nd, below the industry average.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Dodge vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Dodge above average in long-term dependability. With 26 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Volvo is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Dodge vehicles are more reliable than Volvo vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Dodge 4 places higher in reliability than Volvo.

The Charger Daytona R/T Coupe’s standard electric motors produce 248 more horsepower (496 vs. 248) and 94 lbs.-ft. more torque (404 vs. 310) than the C40 Recharge’s standard electric motor. The Charger Daytona R/T Coupe’s electric motors produce 94 more horsepower (496 vs. 402) than the C40 Recharge’s optional electric motors. The Charger Daytona Scat Pack Coupe’s standard electric motors produce 268 more horsepower (670 vs. 402) and 133 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 494) than the C40 Recharge’s optional electric motors.

The Charger Scat Pack’s launch control uses electronics to control motor output precisely to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction, the Charger has larger standard tires than the C40 Recharge (245/55R18 vs. 235/45R20). The Charger Daytona Scat Pack Coupe’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the C40 Recharge (F:305/35R20 & R:325/35R20 vs. 235/45R20).

The Charger Daytona Scat Pack Coupe’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the C40 Recharge’s optional 45 series tires.

The Charger has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The C40 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

The Charger offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads. The C40 Recharge’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Charger offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Charger has standard extendable sun visors. The C40 doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the Charger keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The C40 Recharge doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

The Charger has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the car heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the C40 Recharge.

The Dodge Charger has a standard Homelink wireless remote-control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located on the driver’s visor. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Homelink® is only available on the C40 Plus/Ultimate.

The Dodge Charger outsold the Volvo C40 Recharge by almost 12 to one during 2023.
