For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Dodge Charger have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The BMW M8 doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Charger are reminded to check the back seat. The M8 doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

Both the Charger and the M8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all-wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available around view monitors.

The Dodge Charger weighs 1278 to 1543 pounds more than the BMW M8. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Dodge’s powertrain warranty covers the Charger 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than BMW covers the M8. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the M8 ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 7 times as many Dodge dealers as there are BMW dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Charger’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Dodge vehicles are better in initial quality than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Dodge first in initial quality, above the industry average. With 52 more problems per 100 vehicles, BMW is ranked 20th.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Dodge vehicles are more reliable than BMW vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Dodge above average in long-term dependability. With 26 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, BMW is rated lower.

The Charger Daytona Scat Pack Coupe’s standard electric motors produce 53 more horsepower (670 vs. 617) and 74 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 553) than the M8’s 4.4 turbo V8.

On the EPA test cycle the Charger gets better mileage than the M8:

The Charger can travel with zero emissions for 216 to 308 miles (dependent on model). The M8 can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Dodge Charger higher (10 out of 10) than the BMW M8 (3). This means the Charger produces up to 36.3 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the M8 every 15,000 miles.

For better traction, the Charger Daytona Scat Pack Coupe’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the M8 (F:305/35R20 & R:325/35R20 vs. F:275/35R20 & R:285/35R20).

The Charger has a standard easy tire fill system. When inflating the tires, the vehicle’s integrated tire pressure sensors keep track of the pressure as the tires fill and tell the driver when the tires are inflated to the proper pressure. The M8 doesn’t offer vehicle monitored tire inflation.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Charger’s wheelbase is 9.7 inches longer than on the M8 Coupe/Convertible (121 inches vs. 111.3 inches).

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the Charger is 4 inches wider in the front and 3.5 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the M8.

The front grille of the Charger uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The M8 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Charger a Large car, while the M8 Coupe is rated a Subcompact.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Charger to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The M8 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Charger has standard extendable sun visors. The M8 doesn’t offer extendable visors.
