The Bentayga’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The GX doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the Bentayga and GX have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The Bentayga has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The GX’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The Bentayga has Connected Car Services, a system that seamlessly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The GX doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Bentayga helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then projects the image on the windshield, near the driver’s line of sight. The GX doesn’t offer a night vision system.

For better protection of the passenger compartment, the Bentayga uses safety cell construction with a three-dimensional high-strength frame that surrounds the passenger compartment. It provides extra impact protection and a sturdy mounting location for door hardware and side impact beams. The GX uses a body-on-frame design, which has no frame members above the floor of the vehicle.

Both the Bentayga and the GX have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available lane departure warning systems.

Warranty

The Bentayga comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The GX’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Reliability

The battery on the Bentayga is under the floor, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the Bentayga’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The GX’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

Engine

The Bentayga Hybrid’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid produces 107 more horsepower (456 vs. 349) and 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 479) than the GX’s 3.4 turbo V6. The Bentayga’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 193 more horsepower (542 vs. 349) and 89 lbs.-ft. more torque (568 vs. 479) than the GX’s 3.4 turbo V6.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Bentayga Hybrid running on electricity gets better mileage than the GX (44 city/51 hwy MPGe vs. 15 city/21 hwy).

On the EPA test cycle the Bentayga Hybrid 3.0 turbo V6 Hybrid running its gasoline engine gets better fuel mileage than the GX (18 city/24 hwy vs. 15 city/21 hwy).

The Bentayga Hybrid can travel with zero emissions for 18 miles. The GX can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Bentayga V8’s fuel efficiency. The GX doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Bentayga Hybrid’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The GX doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the Bentayga’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The GX doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The Bentayga’s standard fuel tank has 1.4 gallons more fuel capacity than the GX (22.5 vs. 21.1 gallons).

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Bentayga’s brake rotors are larger than those on the GX:

The Bentayga SPEED offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The GX doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Bentayga has larger tires than the GX (285/45R21 vs. 265/55R20).

The Bentayga’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the GX Overtrail’s standard 70 series tires. The Bentayga’s optional tires have a lower 40 series profile than the GX’s optional 50 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Bentayga has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the GX Overtrail.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the Bentayga uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the GX, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Bentayga offers an available active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. Lexus doesn’t offer an active suspension on the GX.

The Bentayga has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Bentayga’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The GX doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Bentayga’s wheelbase is 5.7 inches longer than on the GX (117.9 inches vs. 112.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Bentayga is .5 inches wider in the front and 1.1 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the GX.

The Bentayga SPEED handles at .93 G’s, while the GX Overtrail+ pulls only .71 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Bentayga SPEED executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 3.9 seconds quicker than the GX Overtrail+ (24.6 seconds @ .79 average G’s vs. 28.5 seconds @ .61 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Bentayga EWB’s turning circle is .7 feet tighter than the GX’s (38.7 feet vs. 39.4 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Bentayga has a greater minimum ground clearance than the GX Premium (9.7 vs. 8.7 inches), allowing the Bentayga to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The Bentayga’s minimum ground clearance is .8 inch higher than on the GX Overtrail (9.7 vs. 8.9 inches).

Chassis

The Bentley Bentayga may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 250 pounds less than the Lexus GX.

The Bentayga is 8.1 inches shorter in height than the GX, making the Bentayga much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

Unibody construction lowers the Bentayga’s center of gravity significantly without reducing ground clearance. This contributes to better on the road handling and better off-road performance and stability. In addition, unibody construction makes the chassis stiffer, improving handling and reducing squeaks and rattles. The GX doesn’t use unibody construction, but a body-on-frame design.

The design of the Bentley Bentayga amounts to more than styling. The Bentayga has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .34 Cd. That is significantly lower than the GX (.39). A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Bentayga get better fuel mileage.

Passenger Space

The Bentayga has .5 inches more front legroom, 4.2 inches more rear legroom and .6 inches more rear shoulder room than the GX.

Cargo Capacity

The Bentayga has a much larger cargo volume than the GX with its rear seat up (17.1 vs. 10.3 cubic feet).

Pressing a button automatically lowers or raises the Bentayga’s rear seats, to make changing between cargo and passengers easier. The GX doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Payload and Towing

While the GX Luxury+ can only tow 6780, any Bentayga can tow a minimum of 7165 pounds.

The Bentayga has a much higher standard payload capacity than the GX (1510 vs. 1235 lbs.).

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the GX, the Bentayga has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Bentayga’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the GX.

The Bentayga EWB’s optional power side swing out doors make it much easier to load and unload kids and cargo. One touch opens the door, before you even get to the sport utility. The GX doesn’t offer a power rear door.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Bentayga to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The GX doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The GX’s optional cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The Bentayga’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

To better shield the driver and front passenger’s vision, the Bentayga offers optional dual-element sun visors that can block glare from two directions simultaneously. The GX doesn’t offer secondary sun visors.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the Bentayga’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The GX doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats for the second row.

The Bentayga has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the GX.

Both the Bentayga and the GX offer available massaging front seats. The Bentayga also offers optional massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging second row seats aren’t available in the GX.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Bentley Bentayga has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) on the dashboard and one for the rear passengers. Wireless charging costs extra on the GX.

The Bentayga’s Park Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The GX doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
