2024 Audi SQ8

Safety

The Bentayga’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The SQ8 doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

Both the Bentayga and the SQ8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors, rear cross-path warning, available night vision systems and lane departure warning systems.

Warranty

The Bentayga comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The SQ8’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Reliability

The battery on the Bentayga is under the floor, which protects it from hot underhood temperatures that can degrade battery life. By keeping the Bentayga’s battery 20 to 30 degrees cooler, its life is increased by years. The SQ8’s battery is in the hot engine compartment.

Engine

The Bentayga’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 42 more horsepower (542 vs. 500) than the SQ8’s 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid.

As tested in Car and Driver the Bentley Bentayga turbo V8 is faster than the Audi SQ8:

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the Bentayga Hybrid running on electricity gets better mileage than the SQ8 (44 city/51 hwy MPGe vs. 15 city/21 hwy).

On the EPA test cycle the Bentayga Hybrid 3.0 turbo V6 Hybrid running its gasoline engine gets better fuel mileage than the SQ8 (18 city/24 hwy vs. 15 city/21 hwy).

The Bentayga Hybrid can travel with zero emissions for 18 miles. The SQ8 can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the Bentayga V8’s fuel efficiency. The SQ8 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the Bentayga CCB’s brake rotors are larger than those on the SQ8:

The Bentayga SPEED offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The SQ8 doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The Bentayga stops shorter than the SQ8:

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the Bentayga EWB’s turning circle is 4.9 feet tighter than the SQ8’s (38.7 feet vs. 43.6 feet). The Bentayga’s turning circle is 3 feet tighter than the SQ8’s (40.6 feet vs. 43.6 feet).

Chassis

The design of the Bentley Bentayga amounts to more than styling. The Bentayga has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .34 Cd. That is lower than the SQ8 (.37). A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Bentayga get better fuel mileage.

Cargo Capacity

The Bentayga has a larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the SQ8 with its rear seat folded (62.6 vs. 60.7 cubic feet).

Pressing a button automatically lowers or raises the Bentayga’s rear seats, to make changing between cargo and passengers easier. The SQ8 doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Towing

Standard Trailer Sway Mitigation on the Bentayga (except Hybrid) uses the Electronic Stability Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The SQ8 doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the SQ8, the Bentayga has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Bentayga EWB’s optional power side swing out doors make it much easier to load and unload kids and cargo. One touch opens the door, before you even get to the sport utility. The SQ8 doesn’t offer a power rear door.

The SQ8’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The Bentayga’s standard adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.

To better shield the driver and front passenger’s vision, the Bentayga offers optional dual-element sun visors that can block glare from two directions simultaneously. The SQ8 doesn’t offer secondary sun visors.

Optional air conditioned front and rear seats keep the Bentayga’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The SQ8 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

Both the Bentayga and the SQ8 offer optional massaging front seats. The Bentayga also offers optional massaging rear seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging rear seats aren’t available in the SQ8.
