Compare the2024 Ford Mustang Mach-EVS 2024 Porsche Taycan

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the Mustang Mach-E are reminded to check the back seat if they opened the rear door before starting out. The Taycan doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The Mustang Mach-E has standard Post Collision Braking, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Taycan doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Mustang Mach-E has a standard Reverse Brake Assist that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Taycan doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Mustang Mach-E has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Taycan’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the Mustang Mach-E’s standard Cross Traffic Alert uses sensors in the rear to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side and Cross Traffic Braking automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. The Taycan doesn’t offer a rear cross-path warning system.

The Mustang Mach-E’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Taycan doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the Mustang Mach-E and the Taycan have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and rearview cameras.

Ford’s powertrain warranty covers the Mustang Mach-E 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Porsche covers the Taycan. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 5 years or 60,000 miles. Coverage on the Taycan ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

There are almost 15 times as many Ford dealers as there are Porsche dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Mustang Mach-E’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Mustang Mach-E’s reliability 15 points higher than the Taycan.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Mustang Mach-E’s wheelbase is 3.3 inches longer than on the Taycan (117.5 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

The Mustang Mach-E GT handles at .92 G’s, while the Taycan 4S Cross Turismo pulls only .88 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Mustang Mach-E Select/Premium is 10.2 inches shorter than the Taycan Cross Turismo, making the Mustang Mach-E easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

For excellent aerodynamics, the Mustang Mach-E has standard flush composite headlights. The Taycan has recessed headlights that spoil its aerodynamic shape and create extra drag.

The Mustang Mach-E has 9.1 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Taycan Cross Turismo (101.1 vs. 92).

The Mustang Mach-E has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the Taycan Cross Turismo with its rear seat up (29.7 vs. 18.7 cubic feet). The Mustang Mach-E has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the Taycan Cross Turismo with its rear seat folded (59.7 vs. 45.7 cubic feet).

If the windows are left open on the Mustang Mach-E the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Taycan can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Mustang Mach-E’s exterior PIN entry system. The Taycan doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system, and its Porsche Connect can’t unlock the doors if the vehicle doesn’t have cell phone reception or the driver can’t contact the service.

The Mustang Mach-E’s power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Taycan’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Mustang Mach-E has a standard rear wiper. The Taycan doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Consumer Reports rated the Mustang Mach-E’s headlight performance “Very Good,” a higher rating than the Taycan’s headlights, which were rated “Fair.”

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the Mustang Mach-E has standard extendable sun visors. The Taycan doesn’t offer extendable visors.

Consumer Reports® recommends the Ford Mustang Mach-E, based on reliability, safety and performance. The Porsche Taycan isn't recommended.

Car and Driver performed a comparison test in its July 2021 issue and the Ford Mustang Mach-E Select 4 won out over the Porsche Taycan 4S.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the Mustang Mach-E as the 2021 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The Taycan has never been chosen.

The Ford Mustang Mach-E outsold the Porsche Taycan by over five to one during 2023.
