The Mustang Mach-E can travel with zero emissions on a full charge for 230 to 320 miles. The Sorento Plug-In Hybrid has to start its internal combustion engine after only 32 miles.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Ford Mustang Mach-E higher (10 out of 10) than the Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid (7). This means the Mustang Mach-E produces up to 11.8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Sorento Plug-In Hybrid every 15,000 miles.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Mustang Mach-E GT has standard 20-inch wheels. The Sorento Plug-In Hybrid’s largest wheels are only 19-inches.

The Mustang Mach-E offers an available driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Sorento Plug-In Hybrid’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Mustang Mach-E’s wheelbase is 6.7 inches longer than on the Sorento Plug-In Hybrid (117.5 inches vs. 110.8 inches).

The Mustang Mach-E’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (48.7% to 51.3%) than the Sorento Plug-In Hybrid’s (55% to 45%). This gives the Mustang Mach-E more stable handling and braking.

The Mustang Mach-E GT handles at .86 G’s, while the Sorento Plug-In Hybrid Prestige pulls only .81 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Mustang Mach-E GT executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2 seconds quicker than the Sorento Plug-In Hybrid Prestige (25.9 seconds @ .7 average G’s vs. 27.9 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

The Mustang Mach-E Select/Premium is 3.8 inches shorter than the Sorento Plug-In Hybrid, making the Mustang Mach-E easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The front grille of the Mustang Mach-E uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Sorento Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The Mustang Mach-E has .2 inches more front headroom, 1.9 inches more front legroom and .3 inches more rear headroom than the Sorento Plug-In Hybrid.

The Mustang Mach-E has a much larger cargo volume than the Sorento Plug-In Hybrid with its rear seat up (29.7 vs. 12.6 cubic feet).

A low lift-over cargo hatch design makes loading and unloading the Mustang Mach-E easier. The Mustang Mach-E’s cargo hatch lift-over height is 30.6 inches, while the Sorento Plug-In Hybrid’s liftover is 31.7 inches.

The Mustang Mach-E uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The Sorento Plug-In Hybrid uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

The Mustang Mach-E’s optional easy entry system glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The Sorento Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

If the windows are left open on the Mustang Mach-E the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Sorento Plug-In Hybrid can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Mustang Mach-E’s exterior PIN entry system. The Sorento Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system.

The Mustang Mach-E’s optional Active Park Assist 2.0 can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Sorento Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The Mustang Mach-E is available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Sorento Plug-In Hybrid doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Consumer Reports® recommends both the Ford Mustang Mach-E and the Kia Sorento Plug-In Hybrid, based on reliability, safety and performance.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Mustang Mach-E third among compact suvs in owner reported satisfaction. This includes how well the vehicle performs and satisfies its owner’s expectations. The Sorento Plug-In Hybrid isn’t in the top three.

A group of representative automotive journalists from North America selected the Mustang Mach-E as the 2021 North American Utility Vehicle of the Year. The Sorento Plug-In Hybrid has never been chosen.
