Compare the2024 Genesis GV80VS 2024 Maserati Grecale

In the past twenty years hundreds of infants and young children have died after being left in vehicles, usually by accident. When turning the vehicle off, drivers of the GV80 are reminded to check the back seat when a sensor determines the back seat is occupied. The Grecale doesn’t offer a back seat reminder.

The GV80 has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Grecale doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

The GV80’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Grecale.

The GV80 has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the Grecale’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the GV80 has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist and automatically engage the brakes. Maserati charges extra for Rear Cross Path on the Grecale and the Grecale’s Rear Cross Path does not include automatic braking.

Both the GV80 and the Grecale have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available around view monitors.

The Genesis GV80 (built after August 2023) has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2024 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and an “Acceptable” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Grecale has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

The GV80 comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Grecale’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Genesis’ powertrain warranty covers the GV80 6 years and 50,000 miles longer than Maserati covers the Grecale. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 10 years or 100,000 miles. Coverage on the Grecale ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The GV80’s corrosion warranty is 3 years and unlimited miles longer than the Grecale’s (7/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).

Genesis pays for scheduled maintenance on the GV80 for 3 years and 36,000 miles. Genesis will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Maserati doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the Grecale.

There are over 2 times as many Genesis dealers as there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the GV80’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Genesis vehicles are better in initial quality than Maserati vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Genesis above average in initial quality. With 6 more problems per 100 vehicles, Maserati is rated lower.

As tested in Consumer Reports the GV80 3.5T 3.5 turbo V6 is faster than the Grecale GT 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid:

On the EPA test cycle the GV80 2.5T 2.5 turbo 4-cylinder gets better fuel mileage than the Grecale Trofeo 3.0 turbo V6 (20 city/24 hwy vs. 18 city/25 hwy).

The GV80 has 4.2 gallons more fuel capacity than the Grecale (21.1 vs. 16.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the GV80’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Grecale:

For better traction, the GV80 has larger tires than the Grecale (265/40R22 vs. 235/55R19). The GV80’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the Grecale (265/40R22 vs. 255/45R20).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the GV80 offers optional 22-inch wheels. The Grecale’s largest wheels are only 21-inches.

The GV80 5-Passenger has a standard space-saver spare (not available on 7-Passenger/Prestige) so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Grecale; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GV80’s wheelbase is 2.1 inches longer than on the Grecale (116.3 inches vs. 114.2 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the GV80 is 2.1 inches wider in the front than on the Grecale.

For better maneuverability, the GV80’s turning circle is 1.5 feet tighter than the Grecale’s (39.3 feet vs. 40.8 feet).

For greater off-road capability the GV80 has a greater minimum ground clearance than the Grecale Trofeo (8.1 vs. 7.9 inches), allowing the GV80 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged. The GV80’s minimum ground clearance is .1 inch higher than on the Grecale (8.1 vs. 8 inches).

The GV80 Prestige uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Grecale doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The GV80 offers optional seating for 7 passengers; the Grecale can only carry 5.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the GV80’s middle and third row seats recline. The Grecale’s rear seats don’t recline.

The GV80’s cargo area provides more volume than the Grecale.

The GV80’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Grecale’s (6000 vs. 5071 pounds).

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the GV80 to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The Grecale doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Optional air conditioned front and second row seats keep the GV80’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The Grecale doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The GV80 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Grecale.

The GV80 offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Grecale.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Genesis GV80 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console and one for the rear passengers. Wireless charging costs extra on the Grecale.

The GV80’s optional Smart Parking Assist can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Optional Remote Smart Parking Assist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Grecale doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The GV80 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2021. The Grecale has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
