To maximize occupant safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Lexus RC have pretensioners to eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The Maserati GranTurismo doesn’t offer pretensioners.

The RC’s optional pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Lexus RC has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The RC’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the GranTurismo.

The RC has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the GranTurismo’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the RC has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Alert, helping the driver avoid collisions. Maserati charges extra for Rear Cross Path on the GranTurismo.

Both the RC and the GranTurismo have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available all wheel drive and rear parking sensors.

Lexus’ powertrain warranty covers the RC 2 years and 20,000 miles longer than Maserati covers the GranTurismo. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the GranTurismo ends after only 4 years or 50,000 miles.

The RC’s corrosion warranty is 2 years and unlimited miles longer than the GranTurismo’s (6/unlimited vs. 4/50,000).

There are over 2 times as many Lexus dealers as there are Maserati dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the RC’s warranty.

The GranTurismo’s redline is at 8000 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The RC has a 5900 to 6600 RPM redline.

The RC has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the GranTurismo; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

For better maneuverability, the RC’s turning circle is 6.5 feet tighter than the GranTurismo’s (34.2 feet vs. 40.7 feet). The RC AWD’s turning circle is 5.9 feet tighter than the GranTurismo’s (34.8 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The Lexus RC may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 300 to 350 pounds less than the Maserati GranTurismo.

The RC is 10.2 inches shorter than the GranTurismo Modena, making the RC easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The RC’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer folding rear seats, only a ski pass-through.

With its coupe body style, valet key, locking rear seatbacks and remote trunk release lockout, the RC offers cargo security. The GranTurismo’s non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.

The RC’s optional easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back when the door is unlocked or the ignition is switched off, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The RC’s standard power windows have a locking feature to keep children from operating them, but the driver can still raise and lower both of them with the lock engaged. Maserati does not offer a locking feature on the GranTurismo’s standard power windows.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The RC offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The RC is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The GranTurismo doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
