The LS has standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The LS has a standard Parking Support Brake that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

The LS’ standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Flying Spur.

The LS’ driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the LS and the Flying Spur have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, available all wheel drive and around view monitors.

The LS comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Flying Spur’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

Lexus’ powertrain warranty covers the LS 3 years longer than Bentley covers the Flying Spur. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Flying Spur ends after only 3 years.

The LS’ corrosion warranty is 3 years longer than the Flying Spur’s (6 vs. 3 years).

There are over 5 times as many Lexus dealers as there are Bentley dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the LS’ warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the LS’ reliability 20 points higher than the Flying Spur.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Lexus LS higher (5 to 7 out of 10) than the Bentley Flying Spur (3 to 5). This means the LS produces up to 24.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Flying Spur every 15,000 miles.

The EPA certifies the Lexus LS as a “Super Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle” (SULEV). The Bentley Flying Spur is only certified to “Low Emissions Vehicle” (LEV) standards.

A 10-speed automatic is standard on the Lexus LS, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Flying Spur.

The LS 500h has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer a CVT.

Changing a flat tire near traffic can be dangerous and inconvenient. The run-flat tires standard on the LS can be driven up to 50 miles without any air pressure, allowing you to drive to a service station for a repair. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer run-flat tires.

The Lexus LS may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 pounds less than the Bentley Flying Spur.

The LS is 3.2 inches shorter than the Flying Spur, making the LS easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The LS uses computer-generated active noise cancellation to help remove annoying noise and vibration from the passenger compartment, especially at low frequencies. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer active noise cancellation.

The LS has .3 inches more front shoulder room, .3 inches more rear headroom and 1.4 inches more rear shoulder room than the Flying Spur.

The LS has a much larger trunk than the Flying Spur (17 vs. 14.8 cubic feet).

If the windows are left open on the LS the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Lexus service department.) The driver of the Flying Spur can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

The LS’ power window, power lock, power mirror and cruise control switches are lit from behind, making them plainly visible and easier to operate at night. The Flying Spur’s cruise control switches are unlit, making them difficult to find at night and operate safely.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The LS offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer headlight washers.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the LS has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer cornering lights. The LS also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the LS has standard extendable sun visors. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The LS offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.

The LS’ optional Advanced Park can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Flying Spur’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.

The LS is available in both rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configurations. The Flying Spur doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.
