The AMG GLE’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Purosangue doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.
The AMG GLE offers optional Post-Collision Brake, which automatically apply the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.
Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The AMG GLE has Car-to-X, a system that seemlesly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The Purosangue doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from other vehicles.
The AMG GLE has a standard Surround View System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Purosangue only offers a rear monitor.
Both the AMG GLE and Purosangue have rear cross-traffic warning, but the AMG GLE has Active Brake Assist (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Purosangue’s Rear Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.
Both the AMG GLE and the Purosangue have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available lane departure warning systems.
The Mercedes AMG GLE weighs 798 to 1085 pounds more than the Ferrari Purosangue. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.
For its performance in IIHS driver-side and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, updated side impact, headlight, daytime pedestrian crash prevention, and nighttime pedestrian crash prevention testing, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the AMG GLE its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2023, a rating granted to only 67 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Purosangue has not been tested, yet.
