Compare the2024 MINI SE CountrymanVS 2024 Honda Prologue

The SE Countryman has a standard PostCrash iBrake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Prologue doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, Full-Time Four-Wheel Drive is standard on the SE Countryman. But it costs extra on the Prologue.

The SE Countryman’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Prologue doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the SE Countryman and the Prologue have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rear parking sensors and available front parking sensors.

For its top level performance in all IIHS frontal, side, rear impact and roof-crush tests, and its standard front crash prevention system, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the SE Countryman the rating of “Top Safety Pick” for 2017, a rating granted to only 207 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Prologue has not been tested, yet.

The SE Countryman comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Prologue’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The SE Countryman’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the Prologue’s (12 vs. 5 years).

MINI pays for scheduled maintenance on the SE Countryman for 1 year and 12000 miles longer than Honda pays for maintenance for the Prologue (3/36,000 vs. 2/24,000).

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that MINI vehicles are better in initial quality than Honda vehicles. J.D. Power ranks MINI above average in initial quality. With 11 more problems per 100 vehicles, Honda is rated lower.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that MINI vehicles are more reliable than Honda vehicles. J.D. Power ranks MINI above average in long-term dependability. With 19 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Honda is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that MINI vehicles are more reliable than Honda vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks MINI third in overall reliability. Honda is ranked fifth.

The SE Countryman’s 1.5 turbo 3-cylinder hybrid produces 9 more horsepower (221 vs. 212) and 48 lbs.-ft. more torque (284 vs. 236) than the Prologue’s standard electric motor.

The SE Countryman’s maximum EPA estimated range on a full tank and a full charge is 303 miles, after which it can be refueled at any gas station in minutes. The Prologue’s range is only 273 to 296 miles, after which the minimum time to recharge is 35 minutes for only an 80% charge at a specially configured quick charge station not available in most areas. A full recharge at a professionally installed 220-volt charging station can take up to 8 hours and 41 minutes.

Regenerative brakes improve the SE Countryman’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Prologue doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

For better stopping power the SE Countryman’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the Prologue:

The SE Countryman’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Prologue’s standard 60 series tires.

For better maneuverability, the SE Countryman’s turning circle is 2.2 feet tighter than the Prologue’s (37.4 feet vs. 39.6 feet).

The MINI SE Countryman may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1000 to 1350 pounds less than the Honda Prologue.

The SE Countryman is 1 foot, 10.2 inches shorter than the Prologue, making the SE Countryman easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The SE Countryman is 6.6 inches narrower than the Prologue, making the SE Countryman easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that MINI service is better than Honda. J.D. Power ranks MINI fourth in service department satisfaction. With a 38% lower rating, Honda is ranked 25th.

The SE Countryman’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Prologue’s manually variable intermittent wipers have to be constantly adjusted.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the SE Countryman to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Prologue doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

The SE Countryman’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The Prologue offers an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

The SE Countryman Iconic’s Automatic Parking Assistant can parallel park by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The Prologue doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
