Both the I-Pace and Cayenne have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The I-Pace has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The Cayenne’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The I-Pace’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Cayenne doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the I-Pace and the Cayenne have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The I-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Cayenne’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the I-Pace for 4 years and 50,000 miles longer than Porsche pays for maintenance for the Cayenne (5/60,000 vs. 1/10,000).

The I-Pace’s electric motors produces 46 more horsepower (394 vs. 348) and 144 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 368) than the Cayenne’s standard 3.0 turbo V6. The I-Pace’s electric motors produces 33 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 479) than the Cayenne E-Hybrid’s standard 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid. The I-Pace’s electric motors produces 70 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 442) than the Cayenne S’ standard 4.0 turbo V8.

The I-Pace can travel with zero emissions for 217 to 246 miles (dependent on model). The Cayenne can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The I-Pace has standard Emergency Brake Assist to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The Cayenne doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.

The I-Pace stops shorter than the Cayenne:

The I-Pace’s standard tires provide better handling because they have a lower 50 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Cayenne’s standard 55 series front tires.

The front and rear suspension of the I-Pace uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Cayenne, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the I-Pace’s wheelbase is 3.7 inches longer than on the Cayenne (117.7 inches vs. 114 inches).

The I-Pace’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the Cayenne’s (56% to 44%). This gives the I-Pace more stable handling and braking.

The I-Pace HSE handles at .93 G’s, while the Cayenne S pulls only .90 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The I-Pace HSE executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver quicker than the Cayenne S (24.8 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 25.6 seconds @ .75 average G’s).

The I-Pace is 9.7 inches shorter than the Cayenne Turbo E-Hybrid, making the I-Pace easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Jaguar I-Pace amounts to more than styling. The I-Pace has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .29 Cd. That is lower than the Cayenne (.3 to .35) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the I-Pace get better fuel mileage.

The I-Pace has a standard remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The Cayenne doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The I-Pace has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Cayenne.
