Both the I-Pace and GLE have child safety locks to prevent children from opening the rear doors. The I-Pace has power child safety locks, allowing the driver to activate and deactivate them from the driver's seat and to know when they're engaged. The GLE’s child locks have to be individually engaged at each rear door with a manual switch. The driver can’t know the status of the locks without opening the doors and checking them.

The I-Pace’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the GLE.

Both the I-Pace and the GLE have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and driver alert monitors.

The I-Pace comes with a full 5-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The GLE’s 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 10,000 miles sooner.

The I-Pace’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the GLE’s (6 vs. 5 years).

Jaguar pays for scheduled maintenance on the I-Pace for 5 years and 60,000 miles. Jaguar will pay for tire rotations, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the GLE.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Jaguar vehicles are better in initial quality than Mercedes vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Jaguar above average in initial quality. With 16 more problems per 100 vehicles, Mercedes is rated below average.

The I-Pace’s electric motors produces 139 more horsepower (394 vs. 255) and 217 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 295) than the GLE 350’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid. The I-Pace’s electric motors produces 32 more horsepower (394 vs. 362) and 143 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 369) than the GLE 450’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder hybrid. The I-Pace’s electric motors produces 13 more horsepower (394 vs. 381) and 33 lbs.-ft. more torque (512 vs. 479) than the GLE 450e’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder hybrid.

On the EPA test cycle the I-Pace gets better mileage than the GLE running its gasoline engine:

The I-Pace can travel with zero emissions on a full charge for 217 to 246 miles, up to 10% further than the GLE 450e‘s -mile range on a full charge and a full tank of fuel. The GLE 450e has to start its internal combustion engine after only 48 miles.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Jaguar I-Pace higher (10 out of 10) than the Mercedes GLE (5 to 7). This means the I-Pace produces up to 19.8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the GLE every 15,000 miles.

For better stopping power the I-Pace’s standard front brake rotors are larger than those on the GLE:

The I-Pace’s standard front and rear disc brakes are vented to help dissipate heat for shorter stops with less fading. The rear discs standard on the GLE 350 are solid, not vented.

The I-Pace stops much shorter than the GLE:

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the I-Pace has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the GLE.

The front and rear suspension of the I-Pace uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the GLE, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The I-Pace’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the GLE’s (53.5% to 46.5%). This gives the I-Pace more stable handling and braking.

The I-Pace HSE handles at .90 G’s, while the GLE 450 pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The I-Pace HSE executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 3.4 seconds quicker than the GLE 350 (24.8 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 28.2 seconds @ .62 average G’s).

The I-Pace is 10 inches shorter than the GLE, making the I-Pace easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The I-Pace is 9.4 inches shorter in height than the GLE, making the I-Pace much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

The front grille of the I-Pace uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The GLE doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The I-Pace has .6 inches more front legroom and 1.2 inches more rear headroom than the GLE.

Consumer Reports rated the I-Pace’s headlight performance “Good,” a higher rating than the GLE’s headlights, which were rated “Poor.”

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The I-Pace offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The GLE doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The I-Pace has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the GLE.
