Tires and Wheels
The I-Pace’s optional tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Electrified GV70’s 45 series tires.
For better ride, handling and brake cooling the I-Pace offers optional 22-inch wheels. The Electrified GV70’s largest wheels are only 20-inches.
The I-Pace offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Electrified GV70; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.
Suspension and Handling
The front and rear suspension of the I-Pace uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the Electrified GV70, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.
The I-Pace has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The I-Pace’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.
The I-Pace has vehicle speed sensitive variable-assist power steering, for low-effort parking, better control at highway speeds and during hard cornering, and a better feel of the road. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer variable-assist power steering.
For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the I-Pace’s wheelbase is 4.5 inches longer than on the Electrified GV70 (117.7 inches vs. 113.2 inches).
The I-Pace HSE handles at .90 G’s, while the Electrified GV70 Prestige pulls only .85 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.
The I-Pace HSE executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.5 seconds quicker than the Electrified GV70 Prestige (24.8 seconds @ .77 average G’s vs. 26.3 seconds @ .74 average G’s).
Chassis
The front grille of the I-Pace uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer active grille shutters.
Ergonomics
If the windows are left open on the I-Pace the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Electrified GV70 can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.
Heated windshield washer nozzles are optional on the I-Pace to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.
In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The I-Pace offers available headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Electrified GV70 doesn’t offer headlight washers.
The I-Pace has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel is only available on the Electrified GV70 Prestige.
