The Quattroporte has standard whiplash protection, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the whiplash protection system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The LS doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

To provide maximum traction and stability on all roads, All-Wheel Drive is standard on the Quattroporte. But it costs extra on the LS.

Both the Quattroporte and the LS have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The Quattroporte’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 70 more horsepower (424 vs. 354) and 78 lbs.-ft. more torque (428 vs. 350) than the LS 500h’s standard 3.5 DOHC V6 hybrid. The Quattroporte’s 3.0 turbo V6 produces 8 more horsepower (424 vs. 416) than the LS 500’s standard 3.4 turbo V6.

Both the Quattroporte and the LS Hybrid have a standard automatic start/stop engine feature to stop unnecessary fuel waste and pollution at stoplights and heavy traffic. All Quattroportes have a standard disable switch for the system, so a driver can keep the engine from shutting off when the vehicle stops temporarily.

The Quattroporte has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The LS doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

The Quattroporte Trofeo’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The LS doesn’t offer launch control.

For better traction and acceleration, the Quattroporte has larger rear tires than the LS (285/30R21 vs. 245/50R19). The Quattroporte’s rear tires are larger than the largest rear tires available on the LS (285/30R21 vs. 275/40R20).

The Quattroporte’s 245/35R21 front and 285/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the LS’ standard 50 series tires. The Quattroporte’s tires are lower profile than the LS 500 F Sport’s 45 series front and 40 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Quattroporte has standard 21-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the LS. The LS’ largest wheels are only 20-inches.

The Quattroporte has a standard space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the LS; it requires you to depend on its run-flat tires, which limits mileage and speed before they are repaired. If a run-flat is damaged beyond repair by a road hazard your vehicle will have to be towed.

The Quattroporte’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The LS doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the Quattroporte’s wheelbase is 1.8 inches longer than on the LS (124.8 inches vs. 123 inches).

The Quattroporte’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (50% to 50%) than the LS’ (52% to 48%). This gives the Quattroporte more stable handling and braking.

The Maserati Quattroporte may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 450 to 850 pounds less than the Lexus LS.

The design of the Maserati Quattroporte amounts to more than styling. The Quattroporte has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .28 Cd. That is lower than the LS (.28 to .3) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the Quattroporte get better fuel mileage.

The front grille of the Quattroporte uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The LS doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the Quattroporte a Large car, while the LS is rated a Mid-size.

The Quattroporte has 14.6 cubic feet more passenger volume than the LS (114 vs. 99.4).

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the Quattroporte to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The LS doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.
