Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The GranTurismo has standard Rear Emergency Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Continental GT doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

The GranTurismo’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Continental GT doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the GranTurismo and the Continental GT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The GranTurismo comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The Continental GT’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

The GranTurismo’s corrosion warranty is 1 year longer than the Continental GT’s (4 vs. 3 years).

There are over 2 times as many Maserati dealers as there are Bentley dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the GranTurismo’s warranty.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Maserati GranTurismo higher (5 out of 10) than the Bentley Continental GT (3). This means the GranTurismo produces up to 16.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Continental GT every 15,000 miles.

The GranTurismo’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Continental GT’s standard 40 series front and 35 series rear tires. The GranTurismo’s tires are lower profile than the Continental GT’s optional 35 series front tires.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GranTurismo’s wheelbase is 3.1 inches longer than on the Continental GT (115.3 inches vs. 112.2 inches).

The GranTurismo’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (52% to 48%) than the Continental GT’s (54.7% to 45.3%). This gives the GranTurismo more stable handling and braking.

The Maserati GranTurismo may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 700 to 1250 pounds less than the Bentley Continental GT.

The design of the Maserati GranTurismo amounts to more than styling. The GranTurismo has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .28 Cd. That is lower than the Continental GT (.29 to .32). A more efficient exterior helps the GranTurismo go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the GranTurismo get better fuel mileage.

The front grille of the GranTurismo uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The Continental GT doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

The GranTurismo has 2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Continental GT (89 vs. 87).

The GranTurismo’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Continental GT does not have an oil pressure gauge.

If the windows are left open on the GranTurismo the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Continental GT can’t use the remote to operate the windows.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the GranTurismo to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The Continental GT doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the GranTurismo offers optional cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The Continental GT doesn’t offer cornering lights. The GranTurismo also offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the GranTurismo has standard extendable sun visors. The Continental GT only offers a small additional center visor.
