The GranTurismo has standard Automated Emergency Braking, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The DBS doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.

Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The GranTurismo has standard Rear Emergency Braking that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The DBS doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The GranTurismo has all-wheel drive to maximize traction under poor conditions, especially in ice and snow. The DBS doesn’t offer all-wheel drive.

The GranTurismo’s optional lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The DBS doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the GranTurismo’s optional Rear Cross Path uses sensors in the rear to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The DBS doesn’t offer a rear cross-path warning system.

The GranTurismo’s optional driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The DBS doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

The GranTurismo has standard SOS and Assist Call, which uses a global positioning satellite (GPS) receiver and a cellular system to help track down your vehicle if it’s stolen or send emergency personnel to the scene if any airbags deploy. The DBS doesn’t offer a GPS response system, only a navigation computer with no live response for emergencies, so if you’re involved in an accident and you’re incapacitated help may not come as quickly.

Both the GranTurismo and the DBS have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

Warranty

The GranTurismo comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The DBS’ 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

There are over 3 times as many Maserati dealers as there are Aston Martin dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the GranTurismo’s warranty.

On the EPA test cycle the GranTurismo gets better mileage than the DBS:

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Maserati GranTurismo higher (5 out of 10) than the Aston Martin DBS (3). This means the GranTurismo produces up to 16.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the DBS every 15,000 miles.

Transmission and Drivetrain

All wheel drive, available in the GranTurismo, provides the best traction for acceleration in wet, dry, and icy conditions. In corners, all wheel drive allows both outside wheels to provide power, balancing the car. This allows for better handling. The Aston Martin DBS is not available with all wheel drive.

The GranTurismo’s launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The DBS doesn’t offer launch control.

Tires and Wheels

The GranTurismo’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the DBS’ standard 35 series front tires.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the GranTurismo uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the DBS, which uses coil springs. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The GranTurismo has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The GranTurismo’s height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The DBS doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the GranTurismo’s wheelbase is 4.9 inches longer than on the DBS (115.3 inches vs. 110.4 inches).

Chassis

The design of the Maserati GranTurismo amounts to more than styling. The GranTurismo has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .28 Cd. That is significantly lower than the DBS (.38). A more efficient exterior helps the GranTurismo go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the GranTurismo get better fuel mileage.

The front grille of the GranTurismo uses electronically controlled shutters to close off airflow and reduce drag when less engine cooling is needed. This helps improve highway fuel economy. The DBS doesn’t offer active grille shutters.

Passenger Space

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the GranTurismo a Subcompact car, while the DBS Coupe is rated a Minicompact.

The GranTurismo has 17 cubic feet more passenger volume than the DBS (89 vs. 72).

Cargo Capacity

The GranTurismo has a much larger trunk than the DBS Coupe (10.9 vs. 9.5 cubic feet).

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the GranTurismo. The DBS doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the GranTurismo’s trunk can be opened just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The GranTurismo also offers an optional power trunk, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button or just by kicking your foot under the back bumper. The DBS doesn’t offer a power or hands-free opening trunk.

Ergonomics

The GranTurismo offers a remote vehicle starting system, so the vehicle can be started from inside the driver's house. This allows the driver to comfortably warm up the engine before going out to the vehicle. The climate system will also automatically heat or cool the interior. The DBS doesn’t offer a remote starting system.

The GranTurismo’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The DBS does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The GranTurismo offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, tachometer, navigation instruction and driver assistance information readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The DBS doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

Heated windshield washer nozzles are standard on the GranTurismo to prevent washer fluid and nozzles from freezing and help continue to keep the windshield clear in sub-freezing temperatures. The DBS doesn’t offer heated windshield washer nozzles.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the GranTurismo detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The DBS doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

To shield the driver and front passenger’s vision over a larger portion of the windshield and side windows, the GranTurismo has standard extendable sun visors. The DBS doesn’t offer extendable visors.

The GranTurismo’s sun-visors swivel front-to-side to block glare from the side windows. The DBS’ visors are fixed into the windshield header.

The GranTurismo’s standard rear and side view mirrors have an automatic dimming feature. These mirrors can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on them, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The DBS has an automatic rear view mirror, but its side mirrors don’t dim.

For greater rear passenger comfort, the GranTurismo has standard rear heat vents to keep rear occupants more comfortable. The DBS doesn’t offer rear vents.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the GranTurismo offers an optional Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The DBS doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Maserati GranTurismo has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The DBS doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.
