The Q8 e-tron Sportback’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The I-Pace doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Audi Q8 e-tron Sportback are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The Jaguar I-Pace doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

The Audi Q8 e-tron Sportback has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The I-Pace doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Q8 e-tron Sportback has a standard Secondary Collision Brake Assist, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

When descending a steep, off-road slope, the Q8 e-tron Sportback’s standard Hill Descent Control allows you to creep down safely. The I-Pace doesn’t offer Hill Descent Control.

Earlier warning of stopped traffic, traffic signals, dangerous road conditions, weather, or accidents, can keep driver's safer and prevent crashes. The Q8 e-tron Sportback has Car-to-X Services, a system that seemlesly communicates important warnings to the driver about impending danger, if they're available. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a system that can receive automated systems from infrastructure.

The Q8 e-tron Sportback Premium Plus/Prestige has a standard Top View Camera System to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The I-Pace only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Q8 e-tron Sportback and the I-Pace have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras and rear cross-path warning.

The Audi Q8 e-tron Sportback weighs 1014 pounds more than the Jaguar I-Pace. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Audi Q8 e-tron Sportback achieved a “Top Safety Pick” rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) for the 2024 model year. This recognition was based on its impressive performance in the small overlap frontal crash test, updated side impact crash test, headlight evaluations, and pedestrian crash prevention testing. The I-Pace has not yet been evaluated by the IIHS for 2024.

Warranty

The Q8 e-tron Sportback’s corrosion warranty is 6 years longer than the I-Pace’s (12 vs. 6 years).

There are over 2 times as many Audi dealers as there are Jaguar dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the Q8 e-tron Sportback’s warranty.

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Audi vehicles are more reliable than Jaguar With 1 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Audi higher than Jaguar.

Engine

The Q8 e-tron Sportback’s standard electric motors produces 8 more horsepower (402 vs. 394) than the I-Pace’s electric motors. The SQ8 e-tron Sportback’s standard electric motors produces 102 more horsepower (496 vs. 394) and 205 lbs.-ft. more torque (717 vs. 512) than the I-Pace’s electric motors.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the Q8 e-tron Sportback has larger standard tires than the I-Pace (255/50R20 vs. 245/50R20). The Q8 e-tron Sportback Premium Plus/Prestige’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the I-Pace (265/45R21 vs. 255/40R22).

Suspension and Handling

The Q8 e-tron Sportback handles at .92 G’s, while the I-Pace HSE pulls only .87 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

Passenger Space

The Q8 e-tron Sportback has 1 inch more front shoulder room, 4.1 inches more rear legroom and 2.6 inches more rear shoulder room than the I-Pace.

Cargo Capacity

The Q8 e-tron Sportback has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat up than the I-Pace with its rear seat up (27.2 vs. 25.3 cubic feet). The Q8 e-tron Sportback has a much larger cargo volume with its rear seat folded than the I-Pace with its rear seat folded (54.5 vs. 53.6 cubic feet).

Pulling a handle automatically lowers the Q8 e-tron Sportback’s rear seats, to make changing between passengers and cargo easier. The I-Pace doesn’t offer automatic folding seats.

Towing

Maximum trailer towing in the Jaguar I-Pace is limited to 1653 pounds. The Q8 e-tron Sportback offers up to a 4000 lbs. towing capacity.

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Audi service is better than Jaguar. J.D. Power ranks Audi 8th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 7% lower rating, Jaguar is ranked 10th.

Ergonomics

Unlike the driver-only memory seat and mirrors in the I-Pace, the Q8 e-tron Sportback Prestige has a passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the Q8 e-tron Sportback has a standard rear wiper. The I-Pace doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Q8 e-tron Sportback to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The I-Pace doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.

Standard air conditioned seats in the front and rear seats keep the Q8 e-tron Sportback Premium Plus/Prestige’s passengers comfortable and take the sting out of hot leather in summer. The I-Pace doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats in the rear.

The Q8 e-tron Sportback Prestige has standard massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the I-Pace.

Recommendations

The Audi e-tron outsold the Jaguar I-Pace by almost 17 to one during 2023.
