To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the AMG GT 4-Door has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Brake automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. BMW charges extra for Cross Traffic Warning on the 8 Series Gran Coupe and the 8 Series Gran Coupe’s Cross Traffic Warning does not include automatic braking.

Both the AMG GT 4-Door and the 8 Series Gran Coupe have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras, driver alert monitors and available lane departure warning systems.

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the AMG GT 4-Door 63/63 S’ fuel efficiency. The 8 Series Gran Coupe doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The AMG GT 4-Door 63 S E’s standard fuel tank has a gallon more fuel capacity than the 8 Series Gran Coupe (19 vs. 18 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups. The AMG GT 4-Door’s standard fuel tank has 3.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the 8 Series Gran Coupe (21.1 vs. 18 gallons).

A nine-speed automatic is available on the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the 8 Series Gran Coupe.

For better stopping power the AMG GT 4-Door 63/63 S CCB’s front brake rotors are larger than those on the 8 Series Gran Coupe:

The AMG GT 4-Door 63/63 S offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The 8 Series Gran Coupe doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The AMG GT 4-Door’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The 8 Series Gran Coupe doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.
