Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The AMG GT 4-Door has a standard Rear Cross Traffic Brake that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The S6 doesn’t offer automatic braking for stationary objects directly to the rear.

The AMG GT 4-Door has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the S6’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the AMG GT 4-Door has standard Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Rear Cross Traffic Brake automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. Audi charges extra for Rear Cross-Traffic Assist on the S6.

The AMG GT 4-Door’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The S6 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the AMG GT 4-Door and the S6 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available lane departure warning systems.

There are over 25 percent more Mercedes dealers than there are Audi dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the AMG GT 4-Door’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2023 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Mercedes vehicles are better in initial quality than Audi vehicles. With 20 fewer problems per 100 vehicles, JD Power ranks Mercedes higher than Audi.

Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Mercedes vehicles are more reliable than Audi With 37 fewer problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, J.D. Power ranks Mercedes higher than Audi.

The AMG GT 63’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 133 more horsepower (577 vs. 444) and 148 lbs.-ft. more torque (590 vs. 442) than the S6’s 2.9 turbo V6 hybrid. The AMG GT 63 S’ standard 4.0 turbo V8 produces 186 more horsepower (630 vs. 444) and 222 lbs.-ft. more torque (664 vs. 442) than the S6’s 2.9 turbo V6 hybrid. The AMG GT 63 S E’s standard 4.0 turbo V8 hybrid produces 387 more horsepower (831 vs. 444) and 640 lbs.-ft. more torque (1082 vs. 442) than the S6’s 2.9 turbo V6 hybrid.

As tested in Motor Trend the AMG GT 63 S 4.0 turbo V8 is faster than the Audi S6:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the AMG GT 4-Door 63/63 S’ fuel efficiency. The S6 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The AMG GT 4-Door’s standard fuel tank has 1.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the S6 (21.1 vs. 19.3 gallons).

A nine-speed automatic is available on the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the S6.

The AMG GT 4-Door 63/63 S’ launch control uses engine electronics to hold engine RPM’s precisely in order to provide the most stable and rapid acceleration possible, using all of the available traction. The S6 doesn’t offer launch control.

The AMG GT 4-Door 63/63 S offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The S6 doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The AMG GT 4-Door stops much shorter than the S6:

For better traction, the AMG GT 4-Door’s optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the S6 (F:275/35R21 & R:315/30R21 vs. 255/35R21).

The AMG GT 4-Door’s optional 315/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the S6’s 35 series tires.

The AMG GT 4-Door has a standard automatic load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The S6 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The AMG GT 4-Door’s drift compensation steering can automatically compensate for road conditions which would cause the vehicle to drift from side to side, helping the driver to keep the vehicle straight more easily. The S6 doesn’t offer drift compensation steering.

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the AMG GT 4-Door is 1.5 inches wider in the front and 1.8 inches wider in the rear than the track on the S6.

The AMG GT 63 S handles at 1.05 G’s, while the S6 Prestige pulls only .84 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The AMG GT 63 S executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 2.9 seconds quicker than the S6 Prestige (23.1 seconds @ .91 average G’s vs. 26 seconds @ 74 average G’s).

The AMG GT 4-Door has 2.8 inches more front headroom, .1 inches more rear headroom and .7 inches more rear shoulder room than the S6.

Heated windshield washer fluid is standard on the AMG GT 4-Door to defrost the washer nozzles and quickly clear ice and frost from the windshield without scraping. The S6 doesn’t offer heated windshield washer fluid. Its standard heated washer nozzles will defrost the washer fluid but not the windshield.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Mercedes AMG GT 4-Door has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console and one for the rear passengers. Wireless charging costs extra on the S6.

The AMG GT 4-Door offers an optional 115-volt a/c outlet on the center console, allowing you to recharge a laptop or run small household appliances without special adapters that can break or get misplaced. The S6 doesn’t offer a house-current electrical outlet.
