Over 200 people are killed each year when backed over by motor vehicles. The Corsair offers optional Reverse Brake Assist that uses rear sensors to monitor for objects to the rear and automatically applies the brakes to prevent a collision. The Edge doesn’t offer backup collision prevention brakes.

The Corsair offers an optional 360-Degree Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Edge only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Corsair and Edge have rear cross-traffic warning, but the Corsair offers optional Rear Cross Traffic Braking (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Edge’s Cross Traffic Alert doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Corsair and the Edge have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning, driver alert monitors and available all wheel drive.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Lincoln Corsair is safer than the Ford Edge:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Lincoln Corsair is safer than the Ford Edge:

The Corsair comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck. The Edge’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

Lincoln’s powertrain warranty covers the Corsair 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Ford covers the Edge. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Edge ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Lincoln vehicles are more reliable than Ford vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Lincoln above average in long-term dependability. With 12 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Ford is rated lower.

The Corsair Grand Touring’s standard 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid produces 16 more horsepower (266 vs. 250) than the Edge’s standard 2.0 turbo 4-cylinder.

The Corsair Grand Touring can travel with zero emissions for 27 miles. The Edge can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

Regenerative brakes improve the Corsair Grand Touring’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The Edge doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Lincoln Corsair higher (7 to 8 out of 10) than the Ford Edge (5 to 6). This means the Corsair produces up to 13.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Edge every 15,000 miles.

The Corsair Grand Touring has a standard continuously variable transmission (CVT). With no “steps” between gears, it can keep the engine at the most efficient speed for fuel economy, or keep it at its peak horsepower indefinitely for maximum acceleration. The Edge doesn’t offer a CVT.

The Corsair stops much shorter than the Edge:

The Corsair offers an optional driver-adjustable suspension system. It allows the driver to choose between an extra-supple ride, reducing fatigue on long trips, or a sport setting, which allows maximum control for tricky roads or off-road. The Edge’s suspension doesn’t offer adjustable shock absorbers.

The Corsair’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (56% to 44%) than the Edge’s (57.8% to 42.2%). This gives the Corsair more stable handling and braking.

The Corsair Reserve AWD handles at .83 G’s, while the Edge Titanium pulls only .78 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

The Corsair Reserve AWD executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.2 seconds quicker than the Edge Titanium (27 seconds @ .63 average G’s vs. 28.2 seconds @ .61 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Corsair’s turning circle is 2.2 feet tighter than the Edge’s (37.1 feet vs. 39.3 feet).

The Lincoln Corsair may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs up to about 450 pounds less than the Ford Edge.

The Corsair is 7.4 inches shorter than the Edge, making the Corsair easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Corsair’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Edge’s (2000 vs. 1500 pounds).

A Trailer Sway Control is standard on the Corsair, using the AdvanceTrac® sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. A trailer sway program costs extra on the Edge and isn’t available on the Edge SE.

The Corsair offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed, warning, turn signal and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Edge doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Corsair’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Edge’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

If the windows are left open on the Corsair the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Edge can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

In case you lock your keys in your vehicle, or don’t have them with you, you can let yourself in using the Corsair’s exterior PIN entry system. The Edge doesn’t offer an exterior PIN entry system.

The Corsair’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. Ford only offers heated mirrors on the Edge SEL/ST-Line/ST/Titanium.

The Corsair Reserve/Grand Touring offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Edge.

The Corsair’s optional Active Park Assist 2.0 can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. The Edge Titanium/ST’s automatic parking system requires operating the brakes and transmission to safely park.

The Corsair is available in both front-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations. The Edge doesn’t offer a two-wheel drive configuration.

Insurance will cost less for the Corsair owner. The Car Book by Jack Gillis rates the Corsair with a number “8” insurance rate while the Edge is rated higher at a number “10” rate.

According to The Car Book by Jack Gillis, the Corsair is less expensive to operate than the Edge because typical repairs cost less on the Corsair than the Edge, including $123 less for a muffler and $42 less for a timing belt/chain.
