Compare the2024 Toyota Camry HybridVS 2024 Honda Accord

The Camry Hybrid has standard Whiplash Injury Lessening Seats (WIL), which use a specially designed seat to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the WIL system allows the backrest to travel backwards to cushion the occupants and the headrests move forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Accord doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The Camry Hybrid has a standard Secondary Collision Brake, which automatically applies the brakes in the event of a crash to help prevent secondary collisions and prevent further injuries. The Accord doesn’t offer a post collision braking system: in the event of a collision that triggers the airbags, more collisions are possible without the protection of airbags that may have already deployed.

The Camry Hybrid XLE/XSE offers an optional Bird’s Eye View Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The Accord only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

Both the Camry Hybrid and Accord offer rear cross-traffic warning, but the Camry Hybrid XLE/XSE has Parking Support Brake (automatically applies the brakes) to better prevent a collision when backing near traffic. The Accord’s Cross Traffic Monitor doesn’t automatically brake.

Both the Camry Hybrid and the Accord have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front and rear side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, height adjustable front shoulder belts, plastic fuel tanks, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and available blind spot warning systems.

For its top level performance in IIHS driver and passenger-side small overlap frontal, moderate overlap frontal, side impact, roof strength and head restraint tests, its standard vehicle-to-vehicle front crash prevention system, its standard vehicle-to-pedestrian front crash prevention system, and its standard headlight’s “Good” rating, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety grants the Camry Hybrid its highest rating: “Top Safety Pick Plus” for 2022, a rating granted to only 131 vehicles tested by the IIHS. The Accord has not been fully tested, yet.

There are over 16 percent more Toyota dealers than there are Honda dealers, which makes it easier should you ever need service under the Camry Hybrid’s warranty.

A reliable vehicle saves its owner time, money and trouble. Nobody wants to be stranded or have to be without a vehicle while it’s being repaired. Consumer Reports rates the Camry Hybrid’s reliability 21 points higher than the Honda Accord Hybrid and 29 points higher than the Honda Accord.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the Camry Hybrid first among midsize cars in their 2023 Initial Quality Study. The Accord isn’t in the top three in its category.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Honda vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Toyota above average in long-term dependability. With 34 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, Honda is rated below average.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Toyota vehicles are more reliable than Honda vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Toyota second in overall reliability. Honda is ranked fifth.

The Camry Hybrid’s 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid produces 16 more horsepower (208 vs. 192) than the Accord’s standard 1.5 turbo 4-cylinder. The Camry Hybrid’s 2.5 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid produces 4 more horsepower (208 vs. 204) than the Accord Hybrid’s standard 2.0 DOHC 4-cylinder hybrid.

As tested in Consumer Reports the Toyota Camry Hybrid is faster than the Honda Accord:

The Camry Hybrid’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (57.3% to 42.7%) than the Accord’s (59.9% to 40.1%). This gives the Camry Hybrid more stable handling and braking.

The Camry Hybrid SE handles at .85 G’s, while the Accord EX pulls only .81 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

The Camry Hybrid SE executes Motor Trend’s “Figure Eight” maneuver 1.2 seconds quicker than the Accord Sport-L Hybrid (26.7 seconds @ .65 average G’s vs. 27.9 seconds @ .58 average G’s).

For better maneuverability, the Camry Hybrid LE’s turning circle is 1 foot tighter than the Accord’s (37.4 feet vs. 38.4 feet). The Camry Hybrid SE/XLE/XSE’s turning circle is .4 feet tighter than the Accord’s (38 feet vs. 38.4 feet).

The Camry Hybrid LE/XLE is 3.6 inches shorter than the Accord, making the Camry Hybrid easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the Camry Hybrid XLE is quieter than the Accord EX:

The Camry Hybrid’s standard folding rear seats are split to accommodate bulky cargo. The Accord’s standard single piece folding rear seat is not as flexible; long cargo and a passenger can’t share the rear seat.

The Camry Hybrid’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Accord’s rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open or close them fully.

If the windows are left open on the Camry Hybrid the driver can close them all at the outside door handle. On a hot day the driver can lower the windows at the outside door handle or from a distance using the keyless remote. (This window function must be activated by your Toyota service department.) The driver of the Accord can only close the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Camry Hybrid XLE offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Accord doesn’t offer cornering lights.

On extremely cold winter days, the Camry Hybrid’s optional (except Nightshade) heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The Accord doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The Camry Hybrid has a standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. Dual zone air conditioning is only available on the Accord EX/Sport/EX-L/Touring.

Both are recommended, but Consumer Reports® chose the Toyota Camry Hybrid as its “Top Pick,” the highest scoring vehicle in its category, based on reliability, safety and performance.
