The V60 has a standard Whiplash Protection System (WHIPS), which use a specially designed seat to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the WHIPS allows the backrest to travel backwards to cushion the occupants and the headrests move forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. At the same time the pretensioning seatbelts fire, removing slack from the belts. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

The V60 has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them and moves the vehicle back into its lane. A system to reveal vehicles in the A6 Allroad’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the V60 has standard Cross Traffic Alert and Braking Intervention automatically engages the brakes to help avoid a collision. Audi charges extra for Rear Cross-Traffic Assist on the A6 Allroad.

The V60’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the V60 and the A6 Allroad have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front and rear seatbelt pretensioners, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, post-collision automatic braking systems, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems and around view monitors.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does 35 MPH front crash tests on new vehicles. In this test, results indicate that the Volvo V60 is safer than the Audi A6 Allroad:

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration does side impact tests on new vehicles. In this test, which crashes the vehicle into a flat barrier at 38.5 MPH and into a post at 20 MPH, results indicate that the Volvo V60 is safer than the Audi A6 Allroad:

Warranty

Volvo pays for scheduled maintenance on the V60 for 4 years and 40,000 miles. Volvo will pay for oil changes, tire rotations, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Audi only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the A6 Allroad.

Engine

The V60’s 2.0 turbo/supercharged 4-cylinder hybrid produces 120 more horsepower (455 vs. 335) and 154 lbs.-ft. more torque (523 vs. 369) than the A6 Allroad’s 3.0 turbo V6 hybrid.

As tested in Car and Driver the Volvo V60 is faster than the Audi A6 Allroad:

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the V60 T8 Polestar Engineered Extended Range running on electricity gets better mileage than the A6 Allroad (74 city/73 hwy MPGe vs. 22 city/30 hwy).

On the EPA test cycle the V60 T8 Polestar running its gasoline engine gets better fuel mileage than the A6 Allroad (30 city/33 hwy vs. 22 city/30 hwy).

The V60 T8 Polestar Engineered Extended Range can travel with zero emissions for 41 miles. The A6 Allroad can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.

The V60 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

Environmental Friendliness

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Volvo V60 higher (7 out of 10) than the Audi A6 Allroad (5). This means the V60 produces up to 8 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the A6 Allroad every 15,000 miles.

Transmission

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Volvo V60, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the A6 Allroad.

Brakes and Stopping

The V60 stops shorter than the A6 Allroad:

Tires and Wheels

The V60’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 40 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the A6 Allroad’s standard 45 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

The V60 Polestar Engineered handles at .90 G’s, while the A6 Allroad Prestige pulls only .83 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the V60’s turning circle is 2.9 feet tighter than the A6 Allroad’s (37.1 feet vs. 40 feet).

Chassis

The V60 is 7.5 inches shorter than the A6 Allroad, making the V60 easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The design of the Volvo V60 amounts to more than styling. The V60 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .29 Cd. That is lower than the A6 Allroad (.31) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the V60 get better fuel mileage.

Towing

The V60 has a 2000 lbs. towing capacity. The A6 Allroad has no towing capacity.

Standard Trailer Stability Assist (TSA) on the V60 uses the Dynamic Stability and Traction Control sensors to detect trailer sway, then uses individual brakes to counteract any swaying and help keep the tow vehicle and trailer steady. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer electronic trailer sway control.

Ergonomics

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the V60 has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the A6 Allroad only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

To help drivers avoid possible obstacles, the V60 has standard cornering lights to illuminate around corners when the turn signals are activated. The A6 Allroad doesn’t offer cornering lights. The V60 also has standard adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle.

The Volvo 60 Series outsold the Audi A6/S6/RS 6 by 48% during 2023.
