For enhanced safety, the front and rear seat shoulder belts of the Porsche Taycan have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision. The GMC Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer pretensioners for its rear seat belts.

The Taycan’s pre-crash front seatbelts will tighten automatically in the event the vehicle detects an impending crash, improving protection against injury significantly. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer pre-crash pretensioners.

The Porsche Taycan has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The Taycan has standard front and rear seat side-impact airbags and head airbags, which act as a forgiving barrier between the passengers and the door. Combined with high-strength steel door beams this system increases protection from broadside collisions. The Hummer EV SUV doesn't offer rear-seat side-impact airbags, only ones for front seat occupants.

A passive infrared night vision system optional on the Taycan helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Taycan and the Hummer EV SUV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras, available blind spot warning systems and around view monitors.

The Taycan comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Hummer EV SUV’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 14,000 miles sooner.

The Taycan’s corrosion warranty is 6 years and unlimited miles longer than the Hummer EV SUV’s (12/unlimited vs. 6/100,000).

Porsche pays for scheduled maintenance on the Taycan for 2 years and 24,000 miles. Porsche will pay for cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. GMC only pays for the first scheduled maintenance visit on the Hummer EV SUV.

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2022 survey of the owners of three-year-old vehicles provides the long-term dependability statistics that show that Porsche vehicles are more reliable than GMC vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Porsche above average in long-term dependability. With 30 more problems per 100 vehicles in the first three years of ownership, GMC is rated lower.

From surveys of all its subscribers, Consumer Reports’ January 2024 Auto Issue reports that Porsche vehicles are more reliable than GMC vehicles. Consumer Reports ranks Porsche 16 places higher in reliability than GMC.

On the EPA test cycle the Taycan Cross Turismo gets better mileage than the Hummer EV SUV:

The Taycan has a standard locking charge port which locks and unlocks with the power locks. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t have a locking charge port. A locking charge port prevents tampering and damage.

For better stopping power the Taycan’s brake rotors are larger than those on the Hummer EV SUV:

The Taycan offers optional heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The Taycan stops much shorter than the Hummer EV SUV:

The Taycan’s standard 225/55R19 front and 275/45R19 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 55 series front and 45 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Hummer EV SUV’s 70 series tires. The Taycan’s optional 265/35R21 front and 305/30R21 rear tires have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile than the Hummer EV SUV’s 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the Taycan has standard 19-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Hummer EV SUV.

The Taycan offers active sway bars, which help keep it flat and controlled during cornering, but disconnect at lower speeds to smooth the ride and offer greater off-road suspension articulation. This helps keep the tires glued to the road on-road and off. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer an active sway bar system.

The Taycan offers an available adjustable active suspension system, which counteracts cornering forces actively, limiting body roll and improving handling and stability. GMC doesn’t offer an active suspension on the Hummer EV SUV.

The Taycan 4S Cross Turismo handles at .88 G’s, while the Hummer EV SUV pulls only .76 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Taycan Cross Turismo’s turning circle is 2.6 feet tighter than the Hummer EV SUV 2’s (39.4 feet vs. 42 feet).

The Taycan Cross Turismo is 10.9 inches shorter than the Hummer EV SUV, making the Taycan easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The Taycan is 9.7 inches narrower on average than the Hummer EV SUV, making the Taycan easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The Taycan is 23.5 inches shorter in height than the Hummer EV SUV, making the Taycan much easier to wash and garage and drive (lower center of gravity).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Taycan’s trunk can be opened and closed just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its cargo door, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

A maintenance reminder system is standard on the Taycan to save the owner time and money by calculating maintenance intervals based on odometer mileage. This takes the guesswork out of keeping your vehicle in top condition and helps it last longer. GMC doesn’t offer a maintenance reminder on the Hummer EV SUV.

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Porsche service is better than GMC. J.D. Power ranks Porsche third in service department satisfaction. With a 26% lower rating, GMC is ranked 15th.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Hummer EV SUV, the Taycan offers an optional driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position, outside mirror angle, climate settings and radio stations and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The Taycan offers an optional heads-up display that projects speed and navigation instruction readouts in front of the driver’s line of sight, allowing drivers to view information without diverting their eyes from the road. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer a heads-up display.

The Taycan’s front and rear power windows all open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Hummer EV SUV’s power windows’ switches have to be held the entire time to close them fully.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the Taycan offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The Hummer EV SUV doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The Taycan offers optional massaging front seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging seats aren’t available in the Hummer EV SUV.

The Taycan’s optional Active Parking Support can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, starting, stopping and changing direction automatically. Remote ParkAssist will park and retrieve your car remotely: press a button and watch it park itself. This is ideal for tight locations. The Hummer EV SUV’s automatic parking system does not offer parking by remote control.

The Porsche Taycan comes in sedan and station wagon bodystyles; the GMC Hummer EV SUV isn’t available as a sedan.
