The Porsche 718 Cayman has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The SF90 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The 718 Cayman Auto offers optional Porsche Active Safety, which use forward mounted sensors to warn the driver of a possible collision ahead. If the driver doesn’t react and the system determines a collision is imminent, it automatically applies the brakes at full-force in order to reduce the force of the crash or avoid it altogether. The SF90 doesn't offer collision warning or crash mitigation brakes.

The 718 Cayman has standard ParkAssist to help warn the driver about vehicles, pedestrians or other obstacles behind or in front of their vehicle. The SF90 doesn’t offer a front parking aid.

Both the 718 Cayman and the SF90 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rearview cameras and available blind spot warning systems.

The 718 Cayman comes with a full 4-year/50,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The SF90’s 3-year basic warranty expires 1 year sooner.

The 718 Cayman’s corrosion warranty is 9 years longer than the SF90’s (12 vs. 3 years).

There are over 4 times as many Porsche dealers as there are Ferrari dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the 718 Cayman’s warranty.

J.D. Power and Associates rated the 718 Cayman third among compact premium sporty cars in their 2023 Initial Quality Study. The SF90 isn’t in the top three in its category.

The flat cylinder configuration of the boxer engine in the 718 Cayman lowers its center of gravity, enhancing handling stability. The SF90 doesn’t offer a boxer engine configuration.

On the EPA test cycle the 718 Cayman gets better mileage than the SF90 Coupe running its gasoline engine:

An engine control system that can shut down some of the engine’s cylinders helps improve the 718 Cayman GT4 RS/GTS 4.0’s fuel efficiency. The SF90 doesn’t offer a system that can shut down part of the engine.

The Porsche 718 Cayman may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 250 to 400 pounds less than the Ferrari SF90.

The 718 Cayman is 1 foot, 1 inches shorter than the SF90, making the 718 Cayman easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The 718 Cayman is 6.5 inches narrower on average than the SF90, making the 718 Cayman easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

The 718 Cayman has a much larger trunk than the SF90 Coupe (14.9 vs. 2.6 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the 718 Cayman’s available trunk can be opened just by holding your hand near the emblem on the trunk, leaving your hands completely free. The SF90 doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its trunk, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The 718 Cayman uses gas struts to support the hood for easier service access. The SF90 uses a prop rod to support its heavy hood. It takes two hands to open the hood and set the prop rod, the prop rod gets in the way during maintenance and service, and the prop rod could be knocked out, causing the heavy hood to fall on the person maintaining or servicing the car.

The 718 Cayman’s front power windows open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The SF90’s front passenger window doesn’t close automatically.

The 718 Cayman’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The SF90’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

Porsche Entry and Drive optional on the 718 Cayman allows you to unlock the driver’s door, trunk and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Ferrari SF90’s Push-button start doesn’t unlock the doors or the trunk.

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the 718 Cayman offers an optional rear wiper. The SF90 doesn’t offer a rear wiper.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The 718 Cayman has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The SF90 doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The 718 Cayman has standard heated front seats, which keep the driver and front passenger extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated seats aren’t available in the SF90.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the 718 Cayman keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The SF90 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

On extremely cold winter days, the 718 Cayman’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The SF90 doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The 718 Cayman’s standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The SF90 doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

The 718 was chosen as a Car and Driver’s “Top Ten” for 2024 and 18 more times in the last 20 years. The SF90 has never been chosen by Car and Driver in their “10Best” issue.
