Safety

The McLaren GT has standard front seat side-impact airbags, which act as a forgiving barrier between the passengers and the door. Combined with high-strength steel door beams this system increases protection from broadside collisions. The GT doesn't offer side-impact airbags.

Both the McLaren GT and the GT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and daytime running lights.

Warranty

The McLaren GT’s corrosion warranty is 5 years longer than the GT’s (10 vs. 5 years).

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the McLaren GT gets better fuel mileage than the GT (15 city/22 hwy vs. 12 city/18 hwy).

In heavy traffic or at stoplights the McLaren GT’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The GT doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.

The McLaren GT has 3.8 gallons more fuel capacity than the GT (19 vs. 15.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Tires and Wheels

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the McLaren GT has standard 21-inch rear wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the GT.

Suspension and Handling

The front and rear suspension of the McLaren GT uses coil springs for better ride, handling and control than the GT, which uses torsion bars in the rear. Coil springs compress more progressively and offer more suspension travel for a smoother ride with less bottoming out.

The McLaren GT’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (42.5% to 57.5%) than the GT’s (40.7% to 59.3%). This gives the McLaren GT more stable handling and braking.

Chassis

The McLaren GT is 3.1 inches shorter than the GT, making the McLaren GT easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Cargo Capacity

The McLaren GT has a much larger trunk than the GT (20.2 vs. .4 cubic feet).

A standard locking glovebox keeps your small valuables safer in the McLaren GT. The GT doesn’t offer locking storage for small valuables.

To make loading and unloading groceries and cargo easier, especially for short adults, the McLaren GT offers an optional power liftgate, which opens and closes automatically by pressing a button. The GT doesn’t offer a power trunk.

Ergonomics

When two different drivers share the McLaren GT, the optional memory system makes it convenient for both. Each setting activates different, customized memories for the driver and front passenger’s seat positions, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle. The GT doesn’t offer a memory system.

The McLaren GT’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The GT doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The McLaren GT’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The GT’s intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

To help drivers see further while navigating curves, the McLaren GT offers optional adaptive headlights to illuminate around corners automatically by reading vehicle speed and steering wheel angle. The GT doesn’t offer cornering lights.

The McLaren GT’s standard outside mirrors include heating elements to clear off the mirrors for better visibility. The GT doesn’t offer heated side mirrors.

When the McLaren GT is put in reverse, both rearview mirrors tilt from their original position. This gives the driver a better view of the curb during parallel parking maneuvers. Shifting out of reverse puts the mirrors into their original positions. The GT’s mirrors don’t automatically adjust for backing.

The McLaren GT’s standard rear view mirror has an automatic dimming feature. This mirror can be set to automatically darken quickly when headlights shine on it, keeping following vehicles from blinding or distracting the driver. The GT doesn’t offer the luxury of an automatic dimming rear view mirror.

The McLaren GT offers optional heated front seats, which keep the driver and front passenger extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated seats aren’t available in the GT.

The McLaren GT’s standard dual zone air conditioning allows the driver and front passenger to choose two completely different temperatures so people with different temperature preferences won’t have to compromise. This makes both the driver and front passenger as comfortable as possible. The GT doesn’t offer dual zone air conditioning.

Recommendations

The McLaren GT outsold the Ford GT by over three to one during 2022.
