The McLaren GT has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The 911 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The McLaren GT’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 233 more horsepower (612 vs. 379) and 134 lbs.-ft. more torque (465 vs. 331) than the 911’s standard 3.0 turbo 6-cylinder. The McLaren GT has 2.1 gallons more fuel capacity than the 911’s standard fuel tank (19 vs. 16.9 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the McLaren GT’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the 911:

The McLaren GT’s 225/35R20 front and 295/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series front and 30 series rear profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the 911 Dakar’s standard 45 series front and 40 series rear tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the McLaren GT has standard 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels. Smaller 19-inch front and 20-inch rear wheels are standard on the 911.

The McLaren GT has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The 911 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the McLaren GT’s wheelbase is 8.8 inches longer than on the 911 (105.3 inches vs. 96.5 inches).

The McLaren GT’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel and glides the driver’s seat back, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. An easy entry system costs extra on the 911.
