Safety
Warranty
The Artura comes with a full 5-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The DB12’s 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty expires 2 years sooner.
McLaren pays for scheduled maintenance on the Artura for 3 years and 27000 miles. McLaren will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance (up to 3 visits). Aston Martin doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the DB12.
Fuel Economy and Range
On the EPA test cycle the Artura running on electricity gets better mileage than the DB12 (37 city/41 hwy MPGe vs. 15 city/22 hwy).
On the EPA test cycle the Artura running its gasoline engine gets better fuel mileage than the DB12 (17 city/21 hwy vs. 15 city/22 hwy).
The Artura can travel with zero emissions for 11 miles. The DB12 can’t move without running its internal combustion engine.
Regenerative brakes improve the Artura’s fuel efficiency by converting inertia back into energy instead of wasting it. The DB12 doesn’t offer a regenerative braking system.
The Artura has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The DB12 doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.
Environmental Friendliness
In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the McLaren Artura higher (6 out of 10) than the Aston Martin DB12 (3). This means the Artura produces up to 23.4 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the DB12 every 15,000 miles.
Transmission
The Artura offers a standard sequential manual gearbox (SMG). With no clutch pedal to worry about and a fully automatic mode, an SMG is much more efficient than a conventional automatic but just as easy to drive. The DB12 doesn’t offer an SMG or a conventional manual transmission.
Suspension and Handling
The Artura has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The DB12 doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.
For better maneuverability, the Artura’s turning circle is 1.4 feet tighter than the DB12’s (39.3 feet vs. 40.7 feet).
Chassis
The McLaren Artura may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 400 pounds less than the Aston Martin DB12.
The Artura is 7.3 inches shorter than the DB12, making the Artura easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.
Cargo Capacity
With its coupe body style and remote trunk release lockout, the Artura offers cargo security. The DB12’s non-lockable remote release defeats cargo security.
