For enhanced safety, the front seat shoulder belts of the Lamborghini Urus are height-adjustable to accommodate a wide variety of driver and passenger heights. A better fit can prevent injuries and the increased comfort also encourages passengers to buckle up. The BMW XM doesn’t offer height-adjustable seat belts.

An active infrared night vision system optional on the Urus helps the driver to more easily detect people, animals or other objects in front of the vehicle at night. Using an infrared camera and near-infrared lights to detect heat, the system then displays the image on a monitor in the dashboard. The XM doesn’t offer a night vision system.

Both the Urus and the XM have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, all wheel drive, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, rearview cameras, available lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, around view monitors and rear cross-path warning.

The Urus comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck. The XM’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Lamborghini pays for scheduled maintenance (up to 5 visits) on the Urus for 2 years and 39000 miles longer than BMW pays for maintenance for the XM (5/75000 vs. 3/36,000).

The Urus’ 4.0 turbo V8 produces 13 more horsepower (657 vs. 644) and 37 lbs.-ft. more torque (627 vs. 590) than the XM’s standard 4.4 turbo V8 hybrid.

As tested in Car and Driver the Lamborghini Urus is faster than the BMW XM (base engine):

On the EPA test cycle the Urus gets better fuel mileage than the XM 4.4 turbo V8 Hybrid running its gasoline engine (14 city/19 hwy vs. 12 city/17 hwy).

The Urus has 4.3 gallons more fuel capacity than the XM (22.5 vs. 18.2 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

For better stopping power the Urus’ front brake rotors are larger than those on the XM:

The Urus has standard heat-treated ceramic brake rotors, which last ten to twenty times as long as conventional cast iron rotors, don’t rust, don’t fade during repeated high speed braking, and their lighter weight contribute to better braking, handling and acceleration. The XM doesn’t offer ceramic brake rotors.

The Urus stops shorter than the XM:

For better traction, the Urus has larger front standard tires than the XM (F:285/45R21 & R:315/40R21 vs. F:275/35R23 & R:315/30R23). The Urus’ optional tires are larger than the largest tires available on the XM (F:285/35R23 & R:325/30R23 vs. F:275/35R23 & R:315/30R23).

The front and rear suspension of the Urus uses air springs for a smoother, controlled ride than the XM, which uses coil springs in front. Air springs maintain proper ride height and ride more smoothly.

The Urus S has a standard automatic front and rear load leveling suspension to keep ride height level with a heavy load or when towing. The Urus’ height leveling suspension allows the driver to raise ride height for better off-road clearance and then lower it again for easier entering and exiting and better on-road handling. The XM doesn’t offer a load leveling suspension.

The Urus Performante handles at 1.04 G’s, while the XM pulls only .92 G’s of cornering force in a Car and Driver skidpad test.

For better maneuverability, the Urus’ turning circle is 2.3 feet tighter than the XM’s (38.7 feet vs. 41 feet).

For greater off-road capability the Urus has a 1.1 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the XM (9.8 vs. 8.7 inches), allowing the Urus to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

The Lamborghini Urus may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 1250 to 1350 pounds less than the BMW XM.

As tested by Car and Driver while under full throttle, the interior of the Urus is quieter than the XM (78 vs. 83 dB).

The Urus has .5 inches more front headroom and 1.2 inches more front legroom than the XM.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the Urus’ available rear seats recline. The XM’s rear seats don’t recline.

The Urus has a much larger cargo volume than the XM with its rear seat up (21.8 vs. 18.6 cubic feet).

The Urus’ standard folding rear seats are split to accommodate bulky cargo. The XM’s standard single piece folding rear seat is not as flexible; long cargo and a passenger can’t share the rear seat.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the Urus’ available liftgate can be opened just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The XM doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its liftgate, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

The Urus’ standard towing capacity is much higher than the XM’s (7716 vs. 5952 pounds).

Manual rear side window sunshades are available in the Urus to help block heat and glare for the rear passengers. The XM doesn’t offer rear side window sunshades.
