The 500e has standard whiplash protection, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the whiplash protection system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Cooper SE doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the 500e and the Cooper SE have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

There are over 3 times as many Fiat dealers as there are MINI dealers, which makes it much easier should you ever need service under the 500e’s warranty.

Fuel Economy and Range

The 500e can travel longer on a full charge than the Cooper SE (149 miles vs. 114 miles).

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the 500e has larger tires than the Cooper SE (205/45R17 vs. 195/55R16).

The 500e’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Cooper SE’s standard 55 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the 500e has standard 17-inch wheels. Smaller 16-inch wheels are standard on the Cooper SE.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the 500e’s turning circle is 3.6 feet tighter than the Cooper SE’s (31.5 feet vs. 35.1 feet).

Chassis

The 500e is 8.7 inches shorter than the Cooper SE, making the 500e easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

Passenger Space

Because it has more passenger and cargo room, the EPA rates the 500e a Compact car, while the Cooper SE is rated a Subcompact.

The 500e has 13.4 cubic feet more passenger volume than the Cooper SE (93.7 vs. 80.3).

The 500e has .4 inches more front legroom and .5 inches more front shoulder room than the Cooper SE.

Ergonomics

To improve rear visibility by keeping the rear window clear, the 500e has a standard rear fixed intermittent wiper with a full on position. The rear wiper standard on the Cooper SE only has an intermittent setting, so in a hard rain visibility isn’t as good.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Fiat 500e has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Only the Cooper SE Iconic offers wireless charging.
