The 500e has standard whiplash protection, which use a specially designed headrest to protect the driver and front passenger from whiplash. During a rear-end collision, the whiplash protection system moves the headrests forward to prevent neck and spine injuries. The Niro EV doesn’t offer a whiplash protection system.

Both the 500e and the Niro EV have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, front wheel drive, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, rearview cameras and driver alert monitors.

Warranty

The 500e’s 5 year corrosion warranty has no mileage limitations, but the corrosion warranty on the Niro EV runs out after 100,000 miles.

Tires and Wheels

The 500e’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 45 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Niro EV’s standard 55 series tires.

Suspension and Handling

For better maneuverability, the 500e’s turning circle is 3.3 feet tighter than the Niro EV’s (31.5 feet vs. 34.8 feet).

Chassis

The Fiat 500e may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 750 pounds less than the Kia Niro EV.

The 500e is 2 feet, 7 inches shorter than the Niro EV, making the 500e easier to handle, maneuver and park in tight spaces.

The 500e is 5.9 inches narrower than the Niro EV, making the 500e easier to handle and maneuver in traffic.

Ergonomics

The 500e’s front power windows lower with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The Niro EV’s standard power windows’ passenger windows don’t open automatically.

The 500e’s LED headlights produce a whiter, brighter light (up to 3x) using five times less power than the Niro EV’s standard projector halogen headlights and light instantly. LED lights also last over twenty times longer than halogen.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the 500e has a standard Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The Niro EV doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.
