Compare the2024 Ferrari RomaVS 2023 Mercedes AMG SL

Both the Roma and the AMG SL have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding and front and rear parking sensors.

The Roma comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The AMG SL’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Ferrari pays for scheduled maintenance on the Roma for 7 years and unlimited miles. Ferrari will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the AMG SL.

The Roma’s 3.9 turbo V8 produces 143 more horsepower (612 vs. 469) and 45 lbs.-ft. more torque (561 vs. 516) than the AMG SL 55’s standard 4.0 turbo V8. The Roma’s 3.9 turbo V8 produces 35 more horsepower (612 vs. 577) than the AMG SL 63’s standard 4.0 turbo V8.

On the EPA test cycle the Roma gets better mileage than the AMG SL:

The Roma has 2.6 gallons more fuel capacity than the AMG SL (21.1 vs. 18.5 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

The Roma has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The AMG SL doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.

In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Ferrari Roma higher (6 out of 10) than the Mercedes AMG SL (5). This means the Roma produces up to 6.9 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the AMG SL every 15,000 miles.

The Roma’s tires provide better handling because they have a lower 35 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the AMG SL’s standard 40 series front tires.

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the Roma is 2 inches wider in the rear than the average track on the AMG SL.

For better maneuverability, the Roma’s turning circle is 5.3 feet tighter than the AMG SL’s (35.4 feet vs. 40.7 feet).

The Ferrari Roma may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 700 to 850 pounds less than the Mercedes AMG SL.

The Roma has 2 cubic feet more passenger volume than the AMG SL (78 vs. 76).

The Roma’s standard rear seats fold to accommodate long and bulky cargo. The AMG SL doesn’t offer folding rear seats.

The Roma’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The AMG SL does not have an oil pressure gauge.

The Ferrari Roma comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Mercedes AMG SL isn’t available as a coupe.
