Using vehicle speed sensors and seat sensors, smart airbags in the F8 deploy with different levels of force or don’t deploy at all to help better protect passengers of all sizes in different collisions. The F8’s side airbags will shut off if a child is leaning against the door. The Mercedes AMG GT’s side airbags don’t have smart features and will always deploy full force.

Both the F8 and the Mercedes AMG GT have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights, rear parking sensors and available rearview cameras.

Warranty

The F8 comes with a full 3-year/unlimited-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire car and includes free 24-hour roadside assistance. The AMG GT’s 50,000-mile basic warranty expires sooner.

Ferrari pays for scheduled maintenance on the F8 for 7 years and unlimited miles. Ferrari will pay for oil changes, air filter replacements, cabin filter replacement, brake fluid replacement, inspections, and any other required maintenance. Mercedes doesn’t pay scheduled maintenance for the AMG GT.

Engine

The F8’s 3.9 turbo V8 produces 188 more horsepower (711 vs. 523) and 73 lbs.-ft. more torque (567 vs. 494) than the Mercedes AMG GT’s standard 4.0 turbo V8. The F8’s 3.9 turbo V8 produces 161 more horsepower (711 vs. 550) and 65 lbs.-ft. more torque (567 vs. 502) than the Mercedes AMG GT C’s standard 4.0 turbo V8. The F8’s 3.9 turbo V8 produces 134 more horsepower (711 vs. 577) and 51 lbs.-ft. more torque (567 vs. 516) than the Mercedes AMG GT R’s standard 4.0 turbo V8.

Fuel Economy and Range

The F8 has 2.9 gallons more fuel capacity than the Mercedes AMG GT (22.7 vs. 19.8 gallons), for longer range between fill-ups.

Brakes and Stopping

For better stopping power the F8’s standard brake rotors are larger than those on the Mercedes AMG GT:

Tires and Wheels

For better traction and acceleration, the F8 has larger rear tires than the Mercedes AMG GT (305/30R20 vs. 295/30R19).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the F8 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 19-inch wheels are standard on the Mercedes AMG GT Coupe. The Mercedes AMG GT’s largest wheels are only 19-inches in the front and 20-inches in the rear.

The F8 offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Mercedes AMG GT; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.

Chassis

The Ferrari F8 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 350 to 600 pounds less than the Mercedes AMG GT.

The design of the Ferrari F8 amounts to more than styling. The F8 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .292 Cd. That is significantly lower than the Mercedes AMG GT (.35 to .36). A more efficient exterior helps the F8 go faster and keeps the interior quieter. It also helps the F8 get better fuel mileage.

The F8’s standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.

Ergonomics

The F8’s instruments include an oil pressure gauge and a temperature gauge - which could save your engine! Often ‘idiot lights’ don’t warn you until damage has been done. The Mercedes AMG GT does not have an oil pressure gauge.

In poor weather, headlights can lose their effectiveness as grime builds up on their lenses. This can reduce visibility without the driver realizing. The F8 has standard headlight washers to keep headlight output high. The Mercedes AMG GT doesn’t offer headlight washers.

The Mercedes AMG GT’s cornering lamps activate a lamp on the front corner when the turn signal is activated. The F8’s optional adaptive cornering lights turn the actual headlight unit up to several degrees, depending on steering wheel angle and vehicle speed. This lights a significant distance into corners at any speed.
