Fuel Economy and Range
In heavy traffic or at stoplights the 812’s engine automatically turns off when the vehicle is stopped, saving fuel and reducing pollution. The engine is automatically restarted when the driver gets ready to move again. If the conditions warrant or the driver wishes, the system can be manually disabled at any time for the duration of a trip. The Chiron doesn’t offer an automatic engine start/stop system.
The 812 has a standard cap-less fueling system. The fuel filler is automatically opened when the fuel nozzle is inserted and automatically closed when it’s removed. This eliminates the need to unscrew and replace the cap and it reduces fuel evaporation, which causes pollution. The Chiron doesn’t offer a cap-less fueling system.
Environmental Friendliness
In its Green Vehicle Guide, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) rates the Ferrari 812 higher (3 out of 10) than the Bugatti Chiron (1). This means the 812 produces up to 22.5 pounds less smog-producing pollutants than the Chiron every 15,000 miles.
Tires and Wheels
The 812 offers an optional space-saver spare tire so you can replace a flat tire and drive to have the flat repaired or replaced. A spare tire isn’t available on the Chiron; it requires you to depend on roadside assistance and your vehicle will have to be towed.
Suspension and Handling
The 812’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (47% to 53%) than the Chiron’s (43% to 57%). This gives the 812 more stable handling and braking.
For better maneuverability, the 812’s turning circle is 8.7 feet tighter than the Chiron’s (41.1 feet vs. 49.8 feet).
Chassis
The Ferrari 812 may be more efficient, handle and accelerate better because it weighs about 550 to 750 pounds less than the Bugatti Chiron.
The design of the Ferrari 812 amounts to more than styling. The 812 has an aerodynamic coefficient of drag of .288 Cd. That is significantly lower than the Chiron (.39) and many sports cars. A more efficient exterior helps keep the interior quieter and helps the 812 get better fuel mileage.
The 812’s standard power retractable hardtop allows a seamless transition from an open car, to a completely sealed coupe. The Chiron doesn’t offer a retractable hardtop.
Ergonomics

The 812’s standard dashboard mounted cruise control is close at hand. The Chiron’s standard cruise control is on an over-crowded turn signal stalk.
Optional smartphone integration for the 812 allows the driver and passengers access to select programs on their smartphones, including reading text messages aloud, playing internet radio stations and other connected activities without taking their eyes off the road or their hands from the wheel. The Chiron doesn’t offer factory integrated smartphone program access.
