The Aston Martin DB12 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The Portofino doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The DB12’s standard lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. A lane departure warning system costs extra on the Portofino.

The DB12 has a standard blind spot warning system that uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. A system to reveal vehicles in the Portofino’s blind spot costs extra.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the DB12 has standard Rear Cross Traffic Assist, helping the driver avoid collisions. Ferrari charges extra for rear cross-path warning on the Portofino.

The DB12’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The Portofino doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the DB12 and the Portofino have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, side-impact head airbags, front seatbelt pretensioners, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and front and rear parking sensors.

The DB12’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the Portofino’s (10 vs. 3 years).

The DB12’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 59 more horsepower (671 vs. 612) and 29 lbs.-ft. more torque (590 vs. 561) than the Portofino’s 3.9 turbo V8.

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The DB12 has a standard Hydraulic Brake Assist to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The Portofino doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.

For better traction, the DB12 has larger tires than the Portofino (F:275/35R21 & R:325/30R21 vs. F:245/35R20 & R:285/35R20).

The DB12’s 325/30R21 rear tires provide better handling because they have a lower 30 series profile (height to width ratio) that provides a stiffer sidewall than the Portofino’s standard 35 series tires.

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the DB12 has standard 21-inch wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the Portofino.

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the DB12’s wheelbase is 5.3 inches longer than on the Portofino (110.4 inches vs. 105.1 inches).

For better handling and stability, the track (width between the wheels) on the DB12 is 1.3 inches wider in the front and .6 inches wider in the rear than on the Portofino.

The DB12’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (48% to 52%) than the Portofino’s (46% to 54%). This gives the DB12 more stable handling and braking.

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the DB12’s trunk can be opened just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The Portofino doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its trunk, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Unlike the driver-only memory system in the Portofino, the DB12 has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The DB12’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The Portofino’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

If the windows are left open on the DB12 the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the Portofino can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

In case of a sudden change of weather, the DB12 has a standard remote convertible top that can be raised from a distance to protect the interior of the vehicle from damage. On a hot day the DB12 has a standard remote opening feature, to lower the top from outside. The Portofino doesn’t offer a remote top, so the driver will have to run to the car, get in, turn the ignition on and raise the top to prevent the interior from being damaged.

Keyless Entry and Go standard on the DB12 allows you to unlock the driver’s door, trunk and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Ferrari Portofino’s Keyless Entry and Ignition doesn’t unlock the trunk.

On extremely cold winter days, the DB12’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The Portofino doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

The DB12’s standard separate stalk mounted cruise control on/off switch is conveniently located with the rest of the cruise controls. The Portofino’s standard cruise control must be turned on with a hard to find switch on the dashboard.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Aston Martin DB12 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The Portofino doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The DB12’s Auto Parking can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The Portofino doesn’t offer an automated parking system.

The Aston Martin DB12 comes in coupe and convertible bodystyles; the Ferrari Portofino isn’t available as a coupe.
