The Aston Martin DB12 has standard driver and front passenger side knee airbags mounted low on the dashboard. These airbags helps prevent the driver and front passenger from sliding under their seatbelts or the main frontal airbags; this keeps them better positioned during a collision for maximum protection. Knee airbags also help keep the legs from striking the dashboard, preventing knee and leg injuries in the case of a serious frontal collision. The F8 doesn’t offer knee airbags.

The DB12’s lane departure warning system alerts a temporarily inattentive driver when the vehicle begins to leave its lane and gently nudges the vehicle back towards its lane. The F8 doesn’t offer a lane departure warning system.

The DB12 has a standard Birds-eye Camera to allow the driver to see objects all around the vehicle on a screen. The F8 only offers a rear monitor and front and rear parking sensors that beep or flash a light. That doesn’t help with obstacles to the sides.

The DB12’s blind spot warning system uses sensors to alert the driver to objects in the vehicle’s blind spots where the side view mirrors don’t reveal them. The F8 doesn’t offer a system to reveal objects in the driver’s blind spots.

To help make backing out of a parking space safer, the DB12’s standard Rear Cross Traffic Assist uses sensors in the rear to alert the driver to vehicles approaching from the side, helping the driver avoid collisions. The F8 doesn’t offer a rear cross-path warning system.

The DB12’s driver alert monitor detects an inattentive driver then sounds a warning and suggests a break. According to the NHTSA, drivers who fall asleep cause about 100,000 crashes and 1500 deaths a year. The F8 doesn’t offer a driver alert monitor.

Both the DB12 and the F8 have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, daytime running lights and rear parking sensors.

The Aston Martin DB12 weighs 507 to 551 pounds more than the Ferrari F8. The NHTSA advises that heavier cars are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

Warranty

The DB12’s corrosion warranty is 7 years longer than the F8’s (10 vs. 3 years).

Reliability

The F8’s redline is at 8000 RPM, which causes more engine wear, and a greater chance of a catastrophic engine failure. The DB12 has a 7000 RPM redline.

Engine

The DB12’s 4.0 turbo V8 produces 23 lbs.-ft. more torque (590 vs. 567) than the F8’s 3.9 turbo V8.

Fuel Economy and Range

On the EPA test cycle the DB12 gets better fuel mileage than the F8 Tributo (15 city/22 hwy vs. 15 city/19 hwy).

On the EPA test cycle the DB12 gets better fuel mileage than the F8 Spider (15 city/22 hwy vs. 15 city/18 hwy).

Transmission

An eight-speed automatic is standard on the Aston Martin DB12, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only a seven-speed automatic is available for the F8.

Brakes and Stopping

In an emergency stopping situation, many drivers don’t press the brakes with enough force to stop the vehicle in the shortest distance. The DB12 has a standard Hydraulic Brake Assist to detect emergency braking situations (by how hard and how quickly the brake pedal is pressed) and then automatically apply maximum braking immediately in order to help prevent a collision. The F8 doesn’t offer a brake assist feature.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the DB12 has larger tires than the F8 (F:275/35R21 & R:325/30R21 vs. F:245/35R20 & R:305/30R20).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the DB12 has standard 21-inch wheels. Only 20-inch wheels are available on the F8.

Suspension and Handling

For a smoother ride and more stable handling, the DB12’s wheelbase is 6.1 inches longer than on the F8 (110.4 inches vs. 104.3 inches).

The DB12’s front to rear weight distribution is more even (48% to 52%) than the F8’s (41.5% to 58.5%). This gives the DB12 more stable handling and braking.

Passenger Space

The DB12 has standard seating for 4 passengers; the F8 can only carry 2.

Cargo Capacity

The DB12 Coupe has a much larger trunk than the F8 Tributo (9.3 vs. 7.1 cubic feet).

To make loading groceries and cargo easier when your hands are full, the DB12’s trunk can be opened just by kicking your foot under the back bumper, leaving your hands completely free. The F8 doesn’t offer a hands-free gesture to open its trunk, forcing you to put cargo down if your hands are full.

Ergonomics

The DB12’s entire steering wheel hub sounds the horn, facilitating hitting the horn in an emergency. The F8 has two small spoke buttons. These buttons can be hard to find and reach in an emergency.

Unlike the driver-only memory system optional at extra cost in the F8, the DB12 has standard driver and passenger memory, so that when drivers switch, the memory setting adjusts the driver’s seat, steering wheel position and outside mirror angle and the front passenger seat also adjusts to the new passenger’s preset preferences.

The DB12’s standard easy entry system raises the steering wheel, making it easier for the driver to get in and out. The F8 doesn’t offer an easy entry system.

The DB12’s front power windows open or close with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside of the car. The F8’s front passenger window doesn’t close automatically.

The DB12’s standard power window controls are mounted on the armrest for easy access. The F8’s available power window controls are spread out on the center console where they can’t be seen without the driver completely removing his eyes from the road.

If the windows are left open on the DB12 the driver can close them all from a distance using the remote. On a hot day the driver can also lower the windows the same way. The driver of the F8 can only operate the windows from inside the vehicle, with the ignition on.

Keyless Entry and Go standard on the DB12 allows you to unlock the driver’s door, trunk and start the engine all without removing a key from pocket or purse. This eliminates searching for keys before loading groceries, getting in the vehicle in bad weather or making a hurried start to your trip. The Ferrari F8’s Keyless Entry and Ignition doesn’t unlock the trunk.

While driving with high beams on, sensitive light sensors standard on the DB12 detect other vehicles which could be blinded and automatically switch to low beams. The F8 doesn’t offer automatic dimming high beams.

The DB12 has standard heated front seats, which keep the driver and front passenger extremely comfortable in the winter. Heated seats aren’t available in the F8.

Optional air-conditioned seats in the DB12 keep the driver and front passenger comfortable and take the sting out of hot seats in Summer. The F8 doesn’t offer air-conditioned seats.

On extremely cold winter days, the DB12’s optional heated steering wheel provides comfort, allowing the driver to steer safely and comfortably before the car heater warms up. The F8 doesn’t offer a heated steering wheel.

To keep a safe, consistent following distance, the DB12 has a standard Adaptive Cruise Control, which alters the speed of the vehicle without driver intervention. This allows the driver to use cruise control more safely without constantly having to disengage it when approaching slower traffic. The F8 doesn’t offer an adaptive cruise control.

The DB12’s standard GPS navigation system has a real-time traffic update feature that plots alternative routes to automatically bypass traffic problems. (Service not available in all areas.) The F8’s navigation system doesn’t offer real-time traffic updates.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Aston Martin DB12 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. The F8 doesn’t offer wireless personal charging.

The DB12’s Auto Parking can parallel park or back into a parking spot by itself, with the driver only controlling speed with the brake pedal. The F8 doesn’t offer an automated parking system.
